Login Screen Issues with TeamSite 6.1 WebDeskPro

If you want to still use the webdeskpro interface with TeamSite 6.1, unfortunately the login screen is not the same as it was in TeamSite 5.5.2. You are presented with the same new silver and red screen . If you choose to follow the manual and go to

http://server_hostname/iw-cc/webdeskpro

it allows you to log into the old webdesk interface. But, if you hit the options button, the only choices present in your list for Content Center is Standard or Professional.

However, if you use this URL:
http://server_hostname/iw-cc/teamsite/common/start.jsp?webdeskpro=true

WebDeskPro will appear as a choice in the drop down.

Should we just use the second URL?

The behavior that I'm seeing is that, if you go with the documented URL, then you are correct in that WebDeskPro doesn't show up in the dropdown. However, it also doesn't matter which one you select, Standard or Professional, you will still be sent to the WebDeskPro interface.

Basically the /webdeskpro in the URL overrides whatever is chosen in the login screen for that session. Sounds like a bug that Interwoven should probably adress, but it's a minor one. and since the WebDeskPro interface is going away completely soon, I doubt that Interwoven will bother.

Maybe it's minor to you, but certainly not to those of us who are trying to merge our users gracefully from one interface to the other. It's clear that this was something that wasn't tested very well. It's hard enough training users to use a radically new UI, let alone having to deal with things like this if we want to phase out the training over time.

Everything is relative. I just find things like this so annoying because they not only imply the amount of laziness put into testing of the product, but it makes my already difficult job that much more difficult. I'm not ranting at you, just ranting.

I mean seriously, did no one at Interwoven ever even try to log into the WebDeskPro interface using the URL supplied in the documentation? Pure laziness...

I don't drink coffee. Maybe that's the problem.

It doesn't have to be a showstopper - I complain the same volume about every little thing. This was something we were actually going to do when we upgraded - phase our users over as groups, leaving the ones not trained yet using the WebDeskPro UI. At least now I know the URL that'll work, but what about the people out there who don't see this thread? It's just crappy work. For what this product costs, the documentation is worth about $1.

look for my recent techlib article. with a few simple steps you could rewrite the URL, so it will automatically lead you to webdeskpro login screen by default
