formapi - copy from 1 container to another

TeamSite 6.1, SP1 on W2K

We have enabled 2 pages in the DCT. Based on user selecting yes on a radio button on page 1, i want to copy all content from a container1 on page 1 to container2 on page 2. Through formapi, I am able to capture the radio item event.

The items in container1 and container2 are identical, just the top-level container name is different. These containers have items and nested containers.

I want to ensure that everything in container2 gets overwritten.
Thus, if container1 has a child container with 2 items,
and container2 has the same child container with 3 items.
After copy, container2's child container should now have only 2 items which are copied over.

My question is what is the best way to copy contents of 1 container to another. Will i have to do nested looping and grab values to copy from 1 to another.
Is there an easier method to just do a copyAll.
Or could i delete container2 and then do addItems.

I'm not sure that what you're trying to do is even possible via FormAPI. I don't see anything in the FormAPI documentation that makes any reference to deleting or adding items. You can manipulate already instantiated items, but I don't see anything beyond that.

If you do have a way of doing this, I'd like to see it.

I want to manipulate already existing items.
But, additionally, i also want to add\delete items for a replicant\container.

I am going to try this the long way - looping through.
I was wondering if there was a better way.

After some reverse engineering, i was able to figure out how to add and remove items...

For future reference,
To insert an item..
parent.datacapture.insert(item_after_which_to_insert.itemImpl.getInstanceID() + 1);

To remove an item..
parent.datacapture.remove(item_to_delete.itemImpl.getInstanceID());

Additionally, i was able to move from page 1 to 2 by using
top._pageNavWin.pageNavigator.goNext();

Of course, once IW exposes these formapi functions, you can use that.

I also found a bug in the setFocus function in the script "dcapi_item.js" where it refers to wrong object.
Caveat: may break with future releases, not supported by IW.

That's great, many people should find value in these. I would just wrap the actual calls in functions so that if they change the implementation, you only have one function to update.

Unless I'm missing something, there is an exposed API for moving to another "tab":
