How to debug why my workflow won't load

Hi all,

I have a workflow that simply won't start. It's associated with submit, with my file selected I click submit, select the radio button next to the name of my workflow and then the following page stays a disappointing white blank nothing.

Prior to this particular failure I was at least getting error messages alerting me to syntax problems and I think I've fixed the specific ones at the line numbers it was referring to and now I'm not getting anything. From what I can tell the job hasn't started so i can't use iwgetwfobj or any other debug methods I know about. There doesn't appear to be anything noted in the iwjoberrors.log either.

So, how do I debug? If the answer's RTFM could someone be so kind as to point me to the page

Can you post (as an attachment) the wft in question?

Generally, the only way to debug this is to (a) have someone proofread the wft for you and (b) comment out a bunch of stuff until you get it to work and the slowly uncomment stuff until you get it to break again - to pinpoint what seems to be triggering the break.

Try doing a view source on the blank page, too. Sometimes, the javascript alerts don't fire when you don't get a successful compile. In those cases (admittedly pretty rare), you will sometimes find the error in the HTML source of the blank instantiation page.

You might also try compiling it from the command line with iwwft_compile.ipl. I haven't messed with it yet, but it might give you better error messages about where your wft has problems. My guess would be that you have a syntax error in some <template_script>

Hi,

Thanks for your responses, I came into the office this morning and spotted a couple of obvious oversights. Now my workflow's giving me the javascript errors again which is progress because I'm back to a position where I can more easily debug now. I still don't know why it was loading blank beforehand, I couldn't see anything of my workflow in the view source either.

It's all just cobbled together and not ready for public scrutiny just yet but I'll be sure to post more messages and the wft should I get errors I can't fathom.
