Can't Assign IManDocument from a Collection

Hello Techies--

I'm missing something important in this code snippet: First, although I'm getting a document collection when I issue the statement
IManDocuments oDocuments = (IManDocuments)docFolder.Contents -- I don't get the full set, so I must not understand what Contents really brings back when I surf through specific document folders. The second thing--I know I have a document when I'm looping through the document collection (such as it is) -- but -- I seem to be getting a null reference exception. *sigh* -- I must be doing something really silly.

BTW, the objective is this: I am trying to search the entire database for a document containiing select profile information. Once I find it, I want to return it and update some other profile info.

Don't you need to make the return collection iManContents, then iterate through the collection casting iManContent as iManDocument ?

The code actually does not fail on oDoc. The problem is caused by using the GetAttributeByID method to return a value of String. Unlike the INRT Interfaces, the IManInterfaces introduce a different way of querying for the profile attribute value. Use GetAttributeValueByID to query for simple type values, i.e., String, Long, Integer, etc. Use GetAttributeByID when you want to obtain an object type value, namely IManCustomAttribute.

Change your code to use GetAttributeValueByID like so:

You are soooooooooo right about GetAttributeByID vs. GetAttributeValueByID ! I discovered that the next morning when I commented out the Console.Writeline!;-)

BTW, am I missing something when it comes to error settings in .NET? Perhaps I need to look somewhere within the VS .NET 2003 IDE debug session other than the Exception ex collection-- because the message I got... which indicates that I was missing an object reference seems like much too general an error message for a specific profile information access error like this one.

Any developer tips for me on error chasing?
