Preventing users from accessing checkedout docs
Gilad
Hi,
During a presale process the following demand aroused:
Preventing users from accessing (including read mode access) documents that are checked out by other users.
In other words: When a user checks out a document all the other users will not have any access to this document as long as the document is checked out by that user.
Is it possible technically with the SDK?
any ideas how to start implementing it?

It could be quite involved but you may use the SDK to write an ICommand Custom Command to control enabling/disabling the command. You would need to add the conditional logic to check whether the selected document is checked out inside the ICommand_Update(). (Please see /iToolkit/iCommands/ for sample custom command project for further clarification on how to set the command status to nrGrayedCommand or nrActiveCommand). You wil also have to create an instance of the IManExt.OpenCmd inside the ICommand_Execute() so that the user can open the selected document if it's not checked out. (Please see /iToolkit/iHelp/WorkSite Extension Library Reference Manual.pdf for reference/example on OpenCmd object implementation how-to's).
After your custom command project has successfully compiled to make a DLL, you would need to replace the defautl open command's progid, IManExt.OpenCmd with the progid of your custom command everywhere the OpenCmd is defined in the registry.
You may also have to keep in mind that it might be necessary to also include logic to check for a version of the selected document is checked out even if the selected document itself isn't -- but this depends on the business requirement you have.

From you're answer I assume it is possible and you certainly gave me a point to start from.
Thanks!
