onReplicantAdded

Ottawa_IWOV

Hey All-

Using TeamSite 6.5 and would like to take asvantage of the OnReplicatnAdded event. However, the documentation is severely lacking, and there is much out there on DevNet.

Basically when a replicant is added, I want to hide some fields. What is the best way to accomplish this. I know theat I want to do some setVisible(false)'s, but I am not sure how to interact with the object after the onReplicantAdded event is fired.

Thanks,

You seem to be 90% of the way there -- once the replicant is added, you can address it and any other previously-added replicants via FormAPI (of course). You might want to post your existing API code, assuming it doesn't work, but what specifically are you trying to do?

Hey Dave-

Inside the replicant (left_nav) I have a Text and URL items.

So FormAPI code is like this:

IWEventRegistry.addItemHandler("/left_nav", "onReplicantAdded", selectedValue);

function selectedValue () {
this is where I want to hide the URL item in the replicant
The following works
var url = IWDatacapture.getItem("/left_nav[1]/url").setVisible(false);
But of course, that only covers the first instance
I want to trap ALL instances (i.e. as a new replicant is added)

}

Thanks,

Okay, I see. Like I said, you're 90% of the way there...

function selectedValue () {
   for (var i=1;i<=IWDatacapture.getItem('/left_nav').getChildren().length;i++) {
      IWDatacapture.getItem('/left_nav[' + i + ']/url").setVisible(false);
   }
}

I tried that already, and it doesn't seem to work - don't know whty ...

Migrateduser

Are you getting any errors? Have you tried inserting alert statements to debug? I wonder if maybe it's trying to address a replicant item that's not there.

The problem seems to be:

IWDatacapture.getItem("/left_nav[' + i + ']/url");

If I comment out that line, and just echo an alert is works properly (i.e. one for the first replicant, twice for a second replicant, three times for a third etc.)

When I add that line back in, it barfs on me ...

Weird ...

Migrateduser

Can you paste your code then, includnig the commented line that's not working?

What looks immediately suspicious to me is your quotes. You're using double quotes to encapsulate the item's address and single quotes around the 'i' variable. Try replacing your double quotes in your commented line with single quotes.

Your handler, selectedValue() is passed the IWItem instance that was added. So your function signature should be selectedValue(myItem). I don't think you need the for loop anymore.

Quotes were the problem, thanks A BUNCH Dave!!!

No problem... it ALWAYS helps to have a second set of eyes!

Is there a way I can get an instance of a replicant. Essentially, depending on the replicant the user is in, I want to pass that to a function to grab the text from a select list. I am firing the OnItemChanged for the replicantname/item (i.e. /left_nav/coll) ...

Thanks,

Migrateduser

Yes. In fact, Yan Si (above) kind of touched on it. You're already passing the replicant instance to the function and the way the selectedValue() function is written is generic, for better or for worse.

If you were to declare the function as:

function selectedValue(item) { ... }

... you can utilize the specific replicant you've just added. Your syntax might look something like the following:

function selectedValue(item) {
   var str = IWDatacapture.getItem(item + '/selectList').getOptions[IWDatacapture.getItem(item + '/selectList').getValue()].text;
   alert(str);
}

You'll have to change the parts in blue, but you get the idea.

Another quick question, I am performing a callServer in each of my reliplicants

I need to be able to pass the replicant instance back to my Javascript function that sets the options. I tiried pass item through as a parameter to callServer, nut it doesn't seem to like that. Is there a way I can simply trap the /left_nav[num] variable?

Migrateduser

I'm not sure what you're asking here. There's a getName() function that may be of some help. That is, when you pass any item to this function, calling a getName() will provide you with the absolute name (location) for this object. Again, I'm not sure if this answers your question but if not, could you explain more?

Basically, I am using a call server to uild up an array of choices to set a select list in the datacapture form. I am doing this for each instance of a replicant. Thing is, I can get the instance :

/left_nav[1]/levelone passed to the function no problem, it just won't do a get item when I pass it that variable.

However, if I hard code the /left_nav[1]/levelone, it set's it up no problem. I tried different vairables on quotes, but nothing seems to work ...

Thanks

Ottawa_IWOV

Things are messed up BIG TIME on this.

Here is the basic scenario ,...

Hide a coulple of fields on formINIT
Do a callServer when an onItemChange happens for a cetain field in each replicant
setOptions on another field in that replicant when calServer returns

Here is the FormAPI code ...

Definitely NOT working as intended ...

Adam Stoller

Instead of:function selectedValue () {
//alert("selectedValue getting fired");
for (var i = 1; i <= IWDatacapture.getItem('/left_nav').getChildren().length; i++) {
//alert(IWDatacapture.getItem('/left_nav[' + i + ']/levelone').isVisible());
IWDatacapture.getItem('/left_nav[' + i + ']/url').setVisible(false);
IWDatacapture.getItem('/left_nav[' + i + ']/levelone').setVisible(false);
}
}Try this:function selectedValue(item){
if (item != null){
var itemName = item.getName();
alert("selectedValue("+itemName+")"); // remove after testing
IWDatacapture.getItem(itemName+"/url").setVisible(false);
IWDatacapture.getItem(itemName+"/levelone").setVisible(false);
}
}

Hi,

I have a very similar issue. I have a replicant container and in the container I have radio button (Yes/No) and one Text field. On form load radio button value is set to No and Text Field is Not-visible. When I select "Yes" the text box should be made visible. I have pasted the code for datacapture.cfg and the script. With this code I couldn't make that work as expected. The onItemChange event never gets fired. It appears that the event is not even registered.

Could any one throw some light on this???

Appreciate your suggestion.

-PB

My datacapture.cfg is as follows :

<data-capture-requirements>
<ruleset name="Others">

Spotlight DCT -- Other

<root-container name="Others" location="Others">
<container combination="and" location="Topic" name="Topic" min ="0" max="unbounded" >
Topic

Subtopic

Subtopic

<radio>

</radio>

Subtopic Title

Topic Title

<text maxlength="150" required="f" size="100"/>

</container>
</root-container>
</ruleset>
</data-capture-requirements>

And in my script -

Hi

Check out the doco on "Using item addresses" for registering replicant items in events. You only need to do it once and it will work for all items. Also, you pass in the address of the item, not the item itself.

Take this line out of your for loop
IWEventRegistry.addItemHandler(subtopic, "onItemChange", subtopicchanged);

and change to
IWEventRegistry.addItemHandler("Others/Topic/SubTopic", "onItemChange", subtopicchanged);

Otherwise it looks like you've got the right idea -- iterating through on init to rehide everything. Trying to handle the creation of new replicant items... looks good I think.

Best of luck.

Cheers
Michael
