A call to a DCT within a DCT
amitjain
Hi all,
I have a requirement to have callouts to a DCT withn a DCT. The idea behind is Users dont want several times saying "new Data record" and creating DCR's. Instead they want one DCT to call other DCT's and allow them to enter content when its called like a pop-up DCT.
There is a hierarchy of DCT's which when saved also needs to be related to other DCT, the users are essentially tired of first creating a DCR and then linking it to other DCR. What wud be really good is something like:
Create DCR1 > Create DCR2 >DCR3 in a wizard style approach.
Is this feasible in Forms Publisher:
1. Embedded DCT Or calls to other DCT
2. something near to wizard like approach as i mentioned above?
If anybody has the anwers can you please reaply faast? wud appreciate that. Or any link which could help me out.
Thanks
Amit.

Well - If you use a workflow-driven approach where the initial DCR is always created for the user (name and location) based on information prompted for in the workflow (job instantiation and/or cgitask script prompting) such that the initial DCR already *exists* at the time it is edited - you can use a cgi-callout approach for editing "nested" DCT/DCRs where your cgi-callout script first extracts enough information from the workflow and/or "parent" DCR to create a shell of its own DCR and then - either automatically redirects / launches, or provides a link/button for the user to click on which launches the Edit DCR window for that new DCR.
At the same time (before during or after) the cgi-callout can also set a field in the "parent" DCR that references [area-relative path presumably] the "child" DCR.
Yeah - I think it can be done - just takes a bit of design and programming.

Thanks for the help Fish.
So on a high level it seems possible. I would look into the details when the design starts.
Shall get back to you if any questions further.
