Integrating a custom ActiveX control
Michael
Hi
What I would like to achieve is to integrate a custom ActiveX control onto my form (DCT). In a way similar to how VisualFormat is currently integrated.
Has anyone done this before and lived to talk about it?
The syntax for the <textarea> lets you specify your external-editor. The doco states that the only value is "visualformat" but having this option would seem to indicate that someone at IWOV envisages being able to put something else in there. Which makes me think that it should be somehow possible.
The second best option may be to use a callout and integrate the control via CGI. Perhaps someone has done this before with an ActiveX control or applet and can share the experience?
Thanks in advance for any war stories that anyone can offer.
Cheers
Michael

I believe there are hooks inside the DCT to enable inclusion of non-Ektron ActiveX's.. However you'd need to ask Engineering for that.
Maybe sombody from IWOV will be able to shed some light?
As to CGI callouts - what seems to be the problem? I've implemented an IFRAME-based texteditor callout, with no issues whasoever. Can't see why this could not be done with ActiveX.

we did it using callouts ... just use the control in your callout window. not sure that you want to try and hack a control into the main form window... i don't think that is currently supported.

Thanks for the reply Greg.
I haven't actually tried to build it yet so no problems so far
I was interested to see if someone had 'proven' this approach in case there are some fatal gotchas along the way. I haven't done much in the way of ActiveX developing and integrating before but from what I have read it would seem achievable.
It would be great if someone from IWOV could chip in with a response about hooking directly into the DCT but I guess I may need to go via support for this.

Excellent! Thanks for the reply Shannon.
Did you have any major hassles in getting it in and working? Any 'lessons learned' that you can share?
Thanks for your help
