Index page questions

Need some design help here. I am using a TPL to build a list of links to pass to another presentation template that will generate an index page. I have seen that if a scalar is too long in -iw_pt-arg, iwpt_compile.ipl bonks and throws a bunch of "Access Denied" errors ...

Also ... iw_pt-arg cannot handle hashes or hash references either ... Just a note

SO I need a better way of passing this list to the presentation template. I was thinking of creating an XML document on the fly to handle this, and pass it **** iw_pt-dcr

Does this make sense? Any other suggestions?

How long are we talking about? I haven't heard of this error, but I don't doubt that it happens... just curious to learn something new.

In one TPL, you could try passing your arguments to a text file, which is later parsed by the subsequent TPL. The path of this text file could be passed via -iw_pt-arg.

I guess that could work. Would have to dynamically create the text file (using Perl File::Temp or something like that) ... then unlink it ... thanks!!

Why dont you use iwostream, iwinclude and pass your data structure directly in that presentation template. It could save you invoking another iwpt_compile.

Not sure, but it sounds like you could use that from the info provided.

Not sure why you are getting those errors.. but heres a different way to approach the problem.

You can avoid passing a list (or some complex data structure) to your index PT if you can embed the logic of determining that list in the index PT itself. You can pass the parameters necessary to determine that list which I assume would be something simple like a directory.

I'm actually a fan of iwostream, but I'm not sure why he's having these errors in the first place. I guess I assumed that either they looked at iwostream and were not interested in going in that direction or the method disagrees with their prevailing design.
