TeamSite 6.5, Win 2k3 env
I am writing a cgi which returns the external attributes of *.html. My attribute here is "Opening Date". I am runing it from the browser, but actually gets executed on the box. When i run this its returning version information of the windows like this
"Microsoft Windows 2000 [Version 5.00.2195] (C) Copyright 1985-2000 Microsoft Corp. f:\interwoven\teamsite\httpd\yash\yash-bin\cocacgi> "
but what i expect is a date "mm/dd/yyyy" . Can any one please tell me whats happening here.
Thanks
Jessica

First, they're not external attributes, but extended attributes. That's really a minor thing though --

What happens when you run that command from the command line? It looks as though you're getting a multi-line result and your code is only spitting out line 1.

well, my code is spittin out some version information, i am trying to get the $commandext get executed on the box through this cgi. Please ignore the commented lines, that thing is a different issue. All i care about is getting back my extended attributes for my tester4.html file.

In that case, it sounds as though your syntax is bad. What happens if you were to leave out part of the one line, so $commandext is the following (I've even taken care of the double-quote situation):

$commandext=qq^$iwexternal -g  "Opening Date"  "/default/iw-server/default/Interwoven/main/NYSDOL/WORKAREA/workarea/tester4.html"  2>&1^;

As already suggested, your command is spitting out multiple lines of output and you are capturing only the first line.

The version information you are getting is for the "cmd" command. You will notice the same output if you run "cmd" from a command prompt.

NO, it still doesn't give me what i wanted. the program i think runs fine, but not returning the Opening Date. Any more suggestions please

Thanks, that what I was trying to get to, actually :-) She (presumably a 'she') should be able to run the command with the cmd.exe, as Perl will shell execute anything inside ` `. I'm not sure her output redirection ( 2>&1) is buying her much, either in this case.

Help us help you --

WHAT is the command returning when you run it on the command line (outside of the web browser)?

well Dave, if i have such a fortune to run it on the box, i would have done that long time ago, But i am writing this cgi so that, with this i can run my command on the box. So runing this cgi, i am getting the output as follows.
"Microsoft Windows 2000 [Version 5.00.2195] (C) Copyright 1985-2000 Microsoft Corp. f:\interwoven\teamsite\httpd\yash\yash-bin\cocacgi> " . Well as a she in this feministic cgi program, i am still waiting for my date to show up.
Thanks

WOW -- okay, y'know this is the first time you mentioned that you weren't able to run it on the box and speaking as someone who generally likes to help people with their problems on this thing, don't you think you're being a bit offensive?

I take blame for having to assume you were female based on your username. You've signed your posts "Jessica" a couple of times already and I could well have gone by that.

Moving past this stuff, if you were to use the following code, you would see if your output is going past 1 line.

Instead of the code below:

$commandext="C:\\WINNT\\System32\\cmd.exe $iwexternal -g \"Opening Date\" \"/default/iw-server/default/Interwoven/main/NYSDOL/WORKAREA/workarea/tester4.html\" 2>&1";
print "$commandext\n";
#$output = `$command`;
$output1 = `$commandext`;
print "Content-type: text/html \n\n";
#print("Command:\"$command\"\n");
#print "$output\n";
print "$output1\n";
EOF

Try the following:

$commandext=qq^$iwexternal -g "Opening Date" "/default/iw-server/default/Interwoven/main/NYSDOL/WORKAREA/workarea/tester4.html"^;
@output_array = `$commandext`;
foreach (@output_array) {
 $output1 .= $_;
}
print "Content-type: text/html \n\n";
print "$output1\n";
EOF

If you have access to upload cgis to your machine. Upload the cgi I have attached, just make sure the path to iwperl is correct in the shebang. Then call this cgi and you will be able to run command line commands, assuming they aren't interactive.
