worksite mp 4 sp1 install
peter_choe
i am trying to install worksite mp 4.1. sp1. i have installed the server component and have installed the web component. but when i try to configure the server, i get Validation of Policy Install failed.
in the stack trace it mentioned that i need to install the unrestricted policy jar file from sun. but i have no idea what that jar file is and when i try to do a search for it on the java.sun.com website, i don't get any results. am i missing something when i do the install?

Are you employing the JRE supplied with the installation? It should already contain the security jars necessary for running the server.

okay. i was able to get rid of the error by copying the policy files to my java environment.
now if i can just get past the other errors.

i keep getting an error message when i try to add a server in the configuration manager. i type the name for a server, but just get a system error message.
is there a log file for configuration manager that may give me more information?
when i try to configure the web component, there is a message that says the library is not properly set in the configuration file? which configuration file is it referring to? is it because i couldn't create a library in the configuration manager?

Peter-
Are you following the steps in the WorkSite MP Server Installation Guide? Web Components (which is a client) will not work properly until you correctly configure WorkSite MP Server. Briefly, you have to :
- Start Process Manager (impm.exe)
- Using Configuration Manager, you have to add a server (on a single machine, the server and cluster name will be identical), create a library, designate the authentication library, and add and start the CMS service (at the minimum).
- Using Library Manager, you have to create some users, create a facility, and define the preferences facility and homepage WorkSpace.
Once you have done this, you can configure Web Components to point to the WorkSite MP Server.
Keep in mind that you will need to create at least two users in Library Manager, because the facility administrator cannot log in as a regular user in Web Components.

i have been following the instructor in the installation guide. i started the process manager, but when i try to add a server in the configuration manager, i just get a pop up window saying system error.
so, i was wondering if there is any error log that i can see. i have checked the install log and the only thing it says is that it installed

The log files are found in the install directory in logs/machine name. You probably want:
cms.ImCmsSvc.machine-name.log
or
cms.ConfigurationManager.machine-name.log
That's where all your logs are btw for the server.
There are more logs for Tomcat and for the Webapp but the are located in the Tomcat and the worksitemp directories as well as the directory that you specifiy in the webapp config.jsp page via a browser.
There also is a logviewer that gets installed with MP but I don't use it. I just know it's there in your bin directory.
I'm meaning to post my session code for your other thread, but still on the road and won't get to it until I get home this weekend.

If you run Log Viewer, you can just click on the File menu and it will contain shortcuts to some of the commonly used server side tools, including Configuration Manager.
My GUESS is that you are trying to set up a server that does not have the same name as your machine or is not in its cluster.

thanks dbguy. that was the problem. i didn't know that when i add a server in the configuration manager, it had to be the same name as the actual server.
