iwmtbatch falls over

Hi,

First time using iwmtbatch.

Environment: Win 2003 Svr.

I am trying to do a bulk meta tag on a directory that consists of PDFs and Docs. The process works fine until it hits a PDF that is made up entirely of graphics. Then it falls over. Is there any way to get round this problem?

What happens when you try using iwgenmetadata instead of iwmtbatch? iwgenmetadata processes the content via the MT server then saves it in a local XML instead of storing it in TeamSite EA's.

I have not tested with iwgenmetadata because I want the metatags to be inserted as EAs in the files I am processing. My task then uses MdTransform to create a string of the metatags based on the EAs.

So my desired functionality is:

Generate Extended Attributes --> Create a string of the EAs via MdTransform --> Write that string into a "manifest" html file that resides in a different directory.

I tried using iwmtBatch inside a Perl script but got errors:

iwmtbatch: missing file "\PROGRA~1\INTERW~1\TeamSite\tools\java1.3\bin\java.exe"
iwmtbatch: missing file "\PROGRA~1\INTERW~1\TeamSite\lib\iw_mdss_clts.jar"
iwmtbatch: missing file "\PROGRA~1\INTERW~1\TeamSite\bin\teamsite_api.dll"

Several things stand out in the above message:

TeamSite was unfortunately installed in Program Files - a directory name with a space in it, which tends to cause problems for a number of utilities.
Although it's using the 'shortname' version in the error message - you need to make sure that PROGRA~1 corresponds to Program Files and that INTERW~1 corresponds to Interwoven (I've seen cases where there were multiple directories that began with "interw" and the mappings got messed up)
There's no drive letter shown at the beginning of the path - which generally means there is an assumption being made that the current-working-drive is the same drive in which TeamSite is installed, and this might not be the case
Have you verified any of those paths - by doing something like:C:\> dir \progra~1\interw~1\teamsite\tools\java1.3\bin\java.exe

Yup Fish, Against my better judgement client wanted Teamsite installed in Program Files. Why? I have not go a clue!

Note the setting of IW_HOME - in its original form the line "SET IW_HOME=%C:\PROGRA~1\INTERW~1\TeamSite%" returned the string without the "C:\"!
Don't know why.
So I manually edited the file as above and it all worls fine.

That said, my job is metatagging 4,700 files amnd on some of them I get a "Could not map memory" problem. But mostly it all seems OK now.

I have put together a batch job to tag 4,700 files using iwmtbatch. All are binaries (.PDFs,.DOCs and .XLSs).
All is well until the job hits one specific XLS. It has already processed other XLS files with no problem. But when it hits this one file it just hangs. If I kill the job and check my Task Manager the iwmttransconver process is still running and won't die. I have to use Process Explorer to kill it.

I'm trying to identify possible causes of the initial problem - why is Metatagger having a problem with this one file. The file has multiple workpages and a bunch of charts. I don't really know enough about metatagger yet so any pointers to discover possible MetaTagger misconfiguration etc. would be really handy.

Thanks for all the help so far. I start my next Teamsite project on Monday and am trying to get the boss to send me on a bootcamp!

I don't have any recent experience with MetaTagger - and the experience I had in the past was very limited - so I can't help you directly.
However, that being said ...

Is it possible for you to run your script on just this one file that seems to cause problems?
If so - is the problem repeatable or does it just seem to happen after processing a bunch of other files?
If the problem is repeatable with this one file - is the file something that can be provided to Interwoven Support ?
If so - I suggest you contact Support to open a case and then ship them the problematic file along with your script and various configuration files, etc. to see if they can recreate the problem in-house.

Frogman,

Large XLS files can take a while to process. Have you tried running iwmttransconverter on it separately to time the conversion? Also, it's best to avoid using the "-mode phrase" option with spreadsheets because the data can look like noun phrases.
