Preview failed for some users

Hi all,

we have a problem with previewing a dcr, but only for one user.
we set a preview-dir in templating.cfg to /lu but for this user teamsite try to do the preview in templatedata which doesn't work because the user have no permissions to create a file at this location.
any ideas what the problem can be...
(TS 6.1 SP1 on Solaris)

If I understand correctly, you are saying that TeamSite is trying to create a preview file in <workarea>/templatedata/ directory eventhough you specified /lu as preview-dir in templating.cfg. Correct ?
How do you know that TS is trying to create a preview file in <workarea>/templatedata/ directory ? Do you get any error message indicating that ? If so, please post the exact error message.
What happens when you try to preview file as a different user ? Where does TeamSite create the preiview file ?

right, you understood it correct...
i get this following error-message with the special user:

--Preview And Generate Preview And Generate:

--The following error occured while creating file /.iwmnt/default/main/dekabank-
--lu/WORKAREA/redaktion/templatedata/zz_tst_lu3662_lock:
--No such file or directory
--The file was not generated.

if i preview with an other user i get the correct preview in <workarea>/lu...
the special user has no permissions to create a file in templatedata directly..
but this location should not be used on preview...

what is your preview_system_directory element in iw.cfg set to?

I believe you want the preview file to be generated in the root of the WA-(for permission issues). In that case : preview_system_directory=/
and set your templating.cfg preview regex to : /

We have just had this issue and this fixed us, burt out preview perm problem was global. Do you change the preview regex on all templates?

we don't have a preview_system_directory entry in our iw.cfg, should we? i think the defualt is ...WA/

i need the preview-dir /lu because i want to preview jsp-files. i have a remapping-rule on /lu which sents the jsps to a application-server. for html files the preview-dir is / . both works fine for most users, but for some users, teamsite tries to create the preview-jsp in /templatedata.... why?

Ok, to step back and verify a few basic things...

Post your iw.cfg
Post your templating.cfg. Identify which category/data-type in this file you are dealing with.
The user that has permission problem on preview - can that user generate for the same DCR at the root of workarea ? at /lu directory ?
Does your PT refer to any other PT ? (with include tag).
Does your PT have any code that tries to write something under /templatedata directory ?

Yes, the user can generate the file in /lu and the "preview" after generation is working fine too. Only the preview-button in DCR is pointing to the /templatedata-location

i just have no access to the files so i can't send the iw.cfg and pt right now, but maybe you have an ideas with this few infos... otherwise i will try to post the files next week...

Are there any files in /lu ? Can you delete anything that is there ? What are the perms on /lu ?
I know you said that the user can generate in that directory, but I wonder if iwui does that.

yes, there are lots of files in it, an the user can create, edit, delete all the files and directories in it.
there are perms --> 775 on /lu group is iwlu and iwui is in that group... i think the iwui does not the preview, because the zz_temp-files are created as your own user. i also found some zz_tmp-files for that user so, it has worked some time ago i think... very strange :-\

try deleting the zz_temp files for that user. I have seen perm issues with overwriting those files before (older versions of TS)

You might want to contact support. On my TS 6.5, W2K, I am seeing the zz_ (lock/manifest) files generated under templatedata directory regardless of preview-dir settings. It used to be that these files were generated at the root of workarea. Perhaps this has changed in 6.x ? If so, that explains the issue you are having.

Anybody else noticed this ?

that was my first idea too, as i saw those files.... but no success... i think i will contact support...
