Version history with "iwrename"
cliffhanger
Hello everyone,
We have a script that sweeps through DCRs and reads certain fields using XMLParser and DCRNode. Based on those value selections it organizes the DCRs into subfolders. It does so by using "iwrename". This script also then sets those field values to the newly assigned path, and to accomplish that we overwrite the DCR with the new values.
Keeping the version history of these DCRs is extremely important, and needless to say keeping the previous content intact is also as crucial.
We have QAed this script already, however an assurance from people that may have coded/executed similar scripts would help our confidence level in executing this script against a very sensitive data set.
Appreciate any suggestion/help/comment

What version of TS ?
iwrename does preserve version history. But you might want to carefully analyze how it does so and how you would want to use the version information.
Are you generating any files out of those DCRs ?
Is this a one-time thing to re-organize DCRs or something you would do periodically ?
Needless to say, always backup your existing *sensitive* data before making any changes.

"What version of TS ?" TeamSite6.1 with SP1
"Are you generating any files out of those DCRs ?" Good catch Samir!! No generated files from the DCRs.
"Is this a one-time thing to re-organize DCRs or something you would do periodically ?" This would be a one time thing for this particular category, but we have a future plan of executing similar script on different data-set.
"Needless to say, always backup your existing *sensitive* data before making any changes." Thanks for the suggestion! We do have a plan for the backup and to revert back to the backup if necessary.
Thanks
