My favorites and migration

Hi,

I am in the process of rolling out a new TeamSite 6.5 server to replace our old 6.1 server. We are also migrating from Windows 2000 to Windows 2003. We have successfully migrated the backing store and everything seems to be going pretty well. The one thing I am stuck on is all users "My Favorites" did not migrate. Are these stored in a cookie somewhere or something? Is there any way I can migrate them over to this new instance. I can change the new server name and ip address to the old one but I am not sure that is going to help. Anybody have any thoughts or know of a way to do this?

As far as I know My Favorites are stored in Enitity database. (unless this has changed in 6.5). They are definately not stored as cookies.

Changing the hostname/IP is not really going to help unless your users see them but they refer to your old IP.

As Samir mentioned, there is an entity database that stores all that information.
Did you upgrade, or was this a fresh install?
An upgrade should have kept them, a fresh install would have wipe it out.

It's located in IWHOME/local/entities

You might try this

1. stop the 6.5 server
2. back up the existing local/entities directory
3. replace it with the 6.1 directory (assuming you had a backup)
4. start up the 6.5 server

I got the impression that she changed systems (from Win2K to Win2003) and a new install of TS.
So the entity DB is back in IW-HOME/local and (likely) very specific to that system. You can try to
copy your entry over though I am not certain if that will succeed.

You might also want to look at the iwprop CLT which allows you to manipulate it to a certain extent.

Okay, This has been fun seeing how my little post grew into a post boosting thread. I wanted to go ahead an follow up on my original question in case someone else runs into this. And I could use a little boost myself

I copied my old entities directory (backing it up first of course) and Viola! all the favorites as well as some other user stuff (like it remembered my last log in on the old server was on the CCPro workflow tab) migrated over just fine.

Oh, and to clarify I am a "He" not a "she".

So another question along these lines. We installed teamsite 6.5 SP2 on a new server and we followed the advice here for copying favorites over from our TeamSite 6.1 server. We've run into an issue now where we can't delete the favorites from the My Favorites portlet that were copied over from the 6.1 server. Any suggestions on what we can do to fix this without deleting all the favorites entirely?
