very very simple table

Hello,
I am sorry that i had to post this message, its very simple problem . All i am trying to do is display a table in the generated page. My DCT takes Number of rows ( $nor ) and number of coulmns ( $noc) and just builds a table. this is as simple as it is. i am doing some wrong with my code in my tpl can any one see my mistakes. Please suggest me. I am on TS 6.5 on win2k. Here is the snippet which creates table ( From my PT)

What is the value of $nor and $noc after these statements are executed ? -

    my $nor = iwpt_dcr_value("dcr.root.NOR");
    iwpt_output("$nor");
    my $noc = iwpt_dcr_value("dcr.root.NOC");
    iwpt_output("$noc");

You might have to comment out everything after this for the timebeing so you don't get any errors.

Does the elements root.NOR and root.NOC match the items in your datacapture.cfg ? root is an item or container or replicant ? (also, its case sensitive).

my $nor=10 and $noc=5, so it basically constructing the table with 10 rows and 5 columns.

A. yes i have these parts working fine, it matches the one in my datacapture and it gives me the right value.

I was thinking there is something wrong with my for loop, cuz my $count<$nor doesn't seem like executing, probably my tpl doesn't like it. I pressume that the comparison is not done, when either of the scalars are null, but i was also thinking that my $count =0, not null, then why is it trowing an error.

the error in my genrated page is nothing, the same error which you get when something is wrong with the tpl
"couldn't process tpl" . Nothing else
Please suggest me some more to play with.
Let me remind you, that this works fine if you run it on the browser
as a cgi

Try hardcoding $nor to 10 and $noc to 5 and see what happens

Also why are you using
iwpt_output("$noc"); ?

The reason I asked you that question was to ensure that $nor is defined and not null when you reach the statement $count<$nor. Same for $noc.
You might want to wrap that code under something like


if( defined($nor) && ($nor ne "") ) 
{

same error, inspite of hardcoding the values of $nor, $noc. I am 100% sure its not wrong with this.
I bet its the problem of for loop, but i don't know where. Please sugget me some more.

Try using lt instead of <

I bet this is your problem --

for(my $colcount;$colcount<$noc;$colcount++){

Remove that my, and you should be ok. If you want to use "my" here, you should initialize the variable. (my $colcount=0). Ignore my previous post - lt or < should not make a difference in this case.

Good pickup, I though that needed to be initialized as well. I seldom use the for loop
so I was checking te syntax

i made all the changes stated by you, well it changed my error message in my logs though. I have tried with if sttements too, it didn't make any difference, with them or with out them.
here is the error from my log file.

"[Tue Mar 15 15:27:37 2005] [error] [client 192.168.168.100] Useless use of private variable in void context at (eval 32) line 541.\n"

Some more suggestions please, I have removed the "my" you have stated.

I cut the perl you posted and just ran it. It worked fine, dumping out <tr> <td> and nsp;

I did comment out the iwpt_output and hardcoded the DCR values

It produced a table that IE could render.

Ok, try this -
Instead of

my $count = 0;
....
for( $count ; $count < .......

use

for( my $count = 0 ; $count < .......

i.e. initialize the variable within for

tried this too, still the same error, small things always cause big problems. I am still playing with it, please let me know it you come up with some more suggestions.

Please post the current code - looking at the original code you seemed to have an "EOF" that wasn't needed plus you were using 'print' where you shoulld have been using 'iwpt_output' - so it would probably help if you presented the current code and current problem(s) once again.

my table is ready, but i have some modificatins to make. I want my table to be dynamic, so that the end user can enter data. So i cahnged my DCT to llok like having two replicants. One for the row and one for the column. I didn't provide any text box in my Row Entry, cuz my row comprises of columns of data. So i have an other replicant under it for columns, which i called Column Entry, this replicant has a text box named Column. Its as simple as anyone can imagine. I can save my dct.
For some odd reason, my tpl blows up on me. no error in logs reported. Just the same old error, .tpl is terminated. Here is the snippet for my replicant specific code of my tpl. please let me know if i have gone wrong some how.

Looks like you have some invalid Perl in <iw_perl> section ...

It has been a while since I've used iw_ tags in a tpl, but I would think you need v1 here:

I have a small bug here, Say for example you have 3 columns in first row, and only two in second row, then the second row doesn't adjust to the entire with of the 2nd row, it leaves an empty cell after the 2nt cell in second row, can any one suggest a better way of eliminating this bug.

Nope, that doesn't solve my purpose, it will create an empty cell, I want a colspan depending on the column count. IF there are 2 columns in my second row they have to spread in a way to cover the whole 2nd row. Any my 3 columns in second row will be as it is. Any more suggestions, Can i use a colspan..? I am not sure though
