Restricting Custom Links by group?

Hi All,

I am not sure this is the right place to discuss this topic, but since I need to fix this problem asap, I am posting here.

We have custom portlets in standard interface which provides quick links to content managers for editing and creating contents.

Now we want to restrict the access to these portlets based on the group. Like... for one branch, only content managers who have access to that branch should access the portlet and no one else.

From the UI Customization guide I can figure out that access can be restricted based on roles, but in our case, we want to restrict access based on groups.

Any hint ?????

If you search the forums you'll find several other people have been looking for the same functionality - and it's not there.
You should contact support to create or get added to a feature request for adding this functionality in a later version / service pack.
Until then, I don't recall seeing much in the way of work-arounds unless you can detect the group a user belongs to within the portlet code and then either display the intended information (if they are in the right group) or display some non-threatening message like "not available"
(if they are not in the right group).
- I suggest searching the forums a bit more (probably in the TeamSite forum rather than the templating forum) to find the other posted requests for this functionality as there may have been some more detailed work-around ideas there.
