UITK (6.5) - how to specify icon?

I'd like to use an icon that already exists on the system for my replacement for an OOTB link in one of the headers.

I've modified the ui_custom.xml file to put my command in place - but I cannot figure out what the correct path is to use for specifying the icon.

The icon is currently in IWHOME/httpd/webapps/content_center/teamsite/images/command_icons/****.gif

I've tried a variety of path specifications - but none of them seem to work and the documentation and reference files are not overly helpful in this regard.
Can I use the icon from its present location? If so - what path do I use?
If not, I guess I'll make a copy and try sticking it in httpd/iw-icons - but I'd rather not if I don't have to.

This is what we have used in our TeamSite 6.1 customizations:

icon="/teamsite/images/command_icons/icn_****.gif"

Arrgh - I could have sworn I had tried that - but looking at the code I commented out it looks like somewhere along the way I lost the ".gif" extension on my string.

Anyway - yes! That worked exactly as I had hoped.
