I have used LWP::UserAgent (and my favorite LWP: Smiley Frustrated

imple) with Perl 5.005 with no problems. Both should be in the TeamSite installation by default.

and it gave me the following error

BEGIN failed--compilation aborted.

I believe that I don't have this library installed. Since I am new to Perl, could anyone help me on how to inlcude this library.

How about iwperl?

rename the system perl binary, and link it to the iwperl, so you would not confuse that in future.

You are using the defaul perl installation. Use the TeamSite path. Should be something like:

/path/to/teamsite/iw-home/iw-perl/bin/iwperl -MLWP etc.

That worked for me and I have TS 5.5.2 on Solaris 9.

Chaging ones PATH order would be much wiser. (Or create an alias.)

You should only have one iwperl on your PATH - so if you specify iwperl instead of just perl - you should find you are getting the correct version every time.

This applies to the command line and to the #! line at the beginning of any perl scripts you are using for Interwoven customizations.

I'm not understanding -- are you having problems implementing this or are you wondering how to get started? This is actually very straight-forward, so I can't see why you would have problems but if this is the case, maybe you could post whatever error messages you're getting as well as attaching your source code. If you're wondering how to get started, there are examples within Devnet, I'm sure, but LWP: Smiley Frustrated

imple is a widely-used library so there would be at least hundreds of examples on the web, as well.

I agree with the others that this is a pretty simple thing (hence the name of the package), but I will give the benefit of the doubt that you are a newbie and looking for some direction. Well, the one-stop shop for Perl packages is CPAN and this is doc for LWP: Smiley Frustrated

My problem is how to locate LWP: Smiley Frustrated

imple. I need to use this library in my code. I wrote " use LWP: Smiley Frustrated

imple;" in the presentation template, it gave me error. It still didn't work if changed it to "use path/iw-home/iw-perl/man/man3/LWP: Smiley Frustrated

imple". I believe somehow the TeamSite is confused since there are some library under perl directory and there are some library under iw-perl. I want to explicitly point out that iw-perl is the one I want to use.

You shouldn't have to -- iwperl should be looking at this one by default. Are you trying this from the command line? If so, what is the precise command you're executing? Also, if you're telnetted to the machine, what is your path (environment variable)? If not from command line, what does the bang line look like (the very first line of your script, which starts with #!)? I think the problem more likely lies in how it's being called, not the code itself.

If you login to your TeamSite server either directly at the console or indirectly through telnet - and you go to your shell and type the following command:iwperl -MLWP:imple -e 'getprint "http://www.sn.no"'what happens?
Please note - I wrote iwperl not perl

If the above command works - it means that Interwoven's installation of Perl has, and can find and use the LWP: Smiley Frustrated

imple module -- then the next question is: in what context, exactly, are you unable to this module?
You mentioned something about a Presentation Template - can you post the PT code ?
How are you using this PT? What command(s) are you running? What output (if any) are you getting?

I use SSH to access TeamSite server. I went into path/to/teamsite/iw-home/iw-perl/bin and then typed the command iwperl -MLWP etc and it worked. However, If I go outside this directory, it won't work.

In my pt.tlp file I have the following snippet code

When I preview my DCR, it generats error.

When you ssh into yrou server - type:

I got the all the html content of this page.

It makes sense that the command line wouldn't work from outside of that directory. I'm inferring from that that iwperl is not in your path, but that's okay. I also assume that if you were to use <iw-home>/iw-perl/bin/iwperl -MLWP ..., you'd be okay from any directory, as this will provide the absolute path to the IWPerl interpreter.

Are you opposed to using the LWP::UserAgent module? Check it out on CPAN, but I think it's going to offer you more flexibility. I think LWP: Smiley Frustrated

imple might be too scaled down for this context (i.e. a presentation template).

The issue is that your path does not include /cms/interwoven/iw-home/iw-perl/bin. That's easy enough to fix, but it's not absolutely necessary in this case. As long as you can run it from the command line (from that directory), you're okay.

But the part that concerns me is that to get it to work, you need all of those extra flags on your iwperl. The page generator definitely does not support those flags, so therein might lie your problem.

Dave - I think you misunderstood what I was trying to resolve here.

iwperl is installed on the system
iwperl does have the LWP: Smiley Frustrated

imple module in its libraries
iwperl is not on their PATH right now - which confused issues greatly when the discussion began because another version of perl *was* on their PATH and that version did *not* have the LWP: Smiley Frustrated

imple module.

The next issues for firefly:
- Can you please post your entire PT - with the code that you believe should work
- and the entire error message you see when you try to use your PT
- and the command line you used to generate the error message you saw

I believe the problem you are running into is "user error" - but we can't help figure out what error is being made until we can see all the pieces.

Thanks, I missed that perl was already in their path. I don't think the CPAN code will work in the PT context, though. I'm not rejecting LWP: Smiley Frustrated

imple altogether, but knowing that it needs those other flags raises a red one for me... this is why I was recommending LWP::UserAgent.

Let me try again - because I forgot to address this specifically last time.

iwperl -MLWP:imple -e 'getprint "http://www.sn.no"';

The above is a means of running code from the command line without using an actual script.
The -MLWP:imple on the command line is equivalent to use LWP:imple; directive within a script
The -e '...' is an expression to be evaluated by iwperl on the fly
So - all-in-all the above is identical to:#!/path-to-iwhome/iw-perl/bin/iwperl

There are no extra flags needed to be used with iwperl within the PT - the PT code should look pretty much like the example I just showed -- but I'd need to see the entire PT and the actual error message in order to do any further diagnosis on the source of the problem.
