DBI:Oracle Perl module

Hi,
I'm a beginner in teamsite. While i was trying for a new form entry i got an error like this..
Root cause:
install_driver(Oracle) failed: Can't locate DBD/Oracle.pm in @INC (@INC contains: d:/Interwoven/TeamSite/iw-perl/lib d:/Interwoven/TeamSite/iw-perl/site/lib

\Interwoven\TeamSite\iw-perl\vendor\lib .) at (eval 3) line 3. Perhaps the DBD: Smiley Surprised

racle perl module hasn't been fully installed, or perhaps the capitalisation of 'Oracle' isn't right. Available drivers: ExampleP, ODBC, Proxy, Sponge. at d:/Interwoven/TeamSite/local/bin/get_news_info.ipl line 65

i'm calling a pearl script get_news_info.ipl from my datacapture.cfg..tht is causing this error i think ..can someone help me please...........

Care to attach your script, DCT, inline, or whatever is not compiling? If you're referencing DBD: Smiley Surprised

racle.pm, which it sounds like you are, then you're okay. You might need to set ORA_HOME and other Oracle-specific environment variables in the BEGIN block of your script.

A couple of things at first glance (sorry I have to be quick, but I have a meeting soon and wanted to reply)...

Where are you trying to reference DBD: Smiley Surprised

racle.pm? I don't see it. I'm not sure, but I don't believe DBI is going to help you here, but you should have DBD: Smiley Surprised

racle.pm. Try using that one and looking at CPAN for usage, syntax, etc. Also, you're setting your environment variables and it's clear as to why, but you'd need to put them inside a BEGIN block. There are many references on the web about Perl BEGIN blocks and how to set environment variables, etc. Like I said, those are the only two things that jump out at me immediately.

I havnt got oracle.pm any where in my teamsite.do i need to take it from cpan and copy it anywhere in my m\c..if then where should i copy it?

That's strange... I'm surprised you don't already have it, but yes... from your <iw-home>/iw-perl/bin directory, use the cpan command/batch script to grab the module.

DBD:

racle no longer ships with TeamSite as of 6.x (legal / licensing issues) -- you need to download it from CPAN - build it (compiler required) and install it - in order to use it.

If your server has access to the internet - I strongly recommend using the IWHOME/iw-perl/bin/cpan utility to get, build, test, and install the module -- but you will need to have a compiler on your machine too.

I don't know about building it on Windows - my guess is you'll want something like the MSSDK installed on the machine in order to get 'make' and a c++ compiler and linker.

I am a new user to Interwoven's Temsite product. I need to use Datadeploy with the Teamsite. In my PC I have Oracle 8.1.7.0.0 installed and the PC has the IW-PERL (perl that comes along with Teamsite) installed and does not have anyother PERL installed in it.

Well, as fish pointed out, you would have to get the pm from cnet to install it, as it is no longer shipped with TeamSite as of version 6.X.

Another option, though, if your system has the appropriate drivers for oracle, would be to create a system dsn for the database and then change your connection string to:

DBI Smiley Surprised

DBC:YourDSNName

If you do that, you shouldn't need DBD: Smiley Surprised

Let me try this again...

You're going in the wrong direction!
Do not use ActiveState Perl on your TeamSite server!
Use iwperl.
Do not use PPM - use CPAN

In order to build/install DBD:racle - you're going to need the Oracle client software installed on your TeamSite server - along with some of the library files from the server installation (if you read the README files that come with the DBD:racle distribution it will probably help).
You are also going to need a compiler/linker setup. Since you're working on Windows- chances are the MSSDK will be sufficient- actually if you type: iwperl -VListed among the output is what compiler and linker were used to build iwperl -- if at all possible, you should try to use the same ones when building DBD:racle.

I'm not sure this is complete - but hopefully this will get you a close

make sure iwhome/iw-perl/bin is in your PATH
Open up a Command Shell / DOS Prompt and run: cpan
and respond to all the prompts (some of them will be empty - so be it
[assume you get this far]
You should now see a prompt like cpan> , at the prompt type i DBD:racle and hit enter / return.

If you're lucky - it will just work perfectly from there.
Most likely something will go wrong with the build process - at that point you need to find your cpan directory (on Unix it's in ~/.cpan/build -- not sure where it is on Windows) and look at all the various README files in the distribution. And hopefully you'll figure it out from there.

I'm not working on Windows - so that's about as far as I can take you.

First - it's "perl" not "pearl" - secondly - as I said before - you do NOT want to use ActiveState Perl on your TeamSite server --- if possible - remove it completely before following the steps previously posted.

If you can get MSSDK - great.
If not - perhaps Cygnus? or some other software development software

I'm not sure the lack of libraries is 'harmless' - however it's clear that while you installed nmake you did not install a compiler on your machine - and it is assuming that the compiler is named cl (I believe that's the MSSDK compiler, but I'm not sure) - without the compiler you are not going to be able to build the module. Period.

You need a software development environment on the server where you are building the DBD module - it can be installed there temporarilly and removed (I believe) after you've successfully built and installed the module - but it needs to be there to build it.

Thanks Adams for your comment. I downloaded the boroloand C compiler but I am not sure where to use this as I am not able to see any steps related to this. should i keep the compiler exe in the same directory as of nmake. I believe nmake utilty is going to invoke this by itslef. please suggest if i need to follow some other steps
