DataDeploy and Virtualization
abyrd
I have a couple of questions in regards to DataDeploy and Virtualization...
1) We'd like to implement virtualization instead of setting up a full 'preview environment'. We'll be using DataDeploy and OpenDeploy and I'm wondering how we should architect the solution in terms of deploying content to the database for preview. In other words, at what point in the workflow would you deploy the content and how does that affect DAS (e.g., is the content actually published to staging and then deployed? or can the DD configuration file be setup such that it "knows" it's only deploying content for preview?)
2) Is it typically easier to build a full 'preview environment' vs. setting up virtualization given the fact that we're deploying content to the web server and a database?
Also, I don't believe we would be able to use any turbo products, b/c we're using all open source technology.
Thanks for your help!

Whats your TS version ? SP/Patch level ?
OS ?
DD/OD version ?
There is no single correct answer to the question you are asking just based on the (little) information you have provided.
What exactly do you mean by - virtualization instead of setting up a full 'preview environment' ?
Do you have a separate environment for preview only ?

Sorry, we're using TS6.5 and OD/DD 6.0.1. We don't want to use a separate environment for preview only, but we're concerned that setting up virtualization would be more time-consuming than setting up a separate environment for preview only. Hope that makes sense.

Anyone have any thoughts on this question?

I read something a while back regarding mounting the TS workarea as the application root directory from the web server and using TS proxy to point to the app server for preview. It seemed like a viable alternative to now defunt Turbo and might be worth checking out. I'll poke around and see if I can find the article.
