test for empty string

I am using team site 6 to develop templates. I was wondering if and how I could test for an empty string. Basically, I have a list of links and descriptions (that are directly below the link) on a page. If there is no description entered then I do not want it to display on the presentation form. It appears to be saving space for the description. I have tried to use an iw_if statement (on the presentation template) but I am not sure exactly how to check to see if it is empty.

I hope this is clear enough. I am a beginner in terms of using team site.

Look at http://YOUR_TS_SERVER/iw/help/tst/pt for some examples.
You will basically use iw_if to check value of an item if its empty or not.

I'm not trying to be harsh, but are you a beginner to Perl? What exactly is the value of the string and what is your iw_if statement? Attaching or posting a bit of your code would help, also...

I am a beginner to both perl and team site. My company are evaluating whether or not we will use team site. I am an Oracle developer (and before that I was an ASP dev.) so most of this is completely new to me. Here is the code that I tried. It could be completely wrong. I appreciate any help.

There is a space between your quotes:

 ... eq " " '>

Is this intentional? Is this the empty-looking value you're getting from the DCR? This might be the discrepancy, since your code looks fine.

Here is some of the xml code. I know that it could use somefixing up. This is the first attempt that I made at creating one. I can get everything to display properly except when there is no description I would like to cut back on the spacing.

Sorry, that helps, but I meant the DCR not the DCT. This raised another question, though... what version of TS are you using? Your use of



<item name="sectionheading">
<replicant max="50">

looks a little strange to me. Can you instead use <container name="sectionheading" min="(whatever you want here)" max="50">?

Also, with it being a replicant, you will need to address differently in your PT. For instance, you could do something like:
