MediaBin Asset Reference
siva2_2000
Could anyone let me know, how MediaBin Asset Reference works?.
I have created some reference to the assets and updated Custom metadata, if effect in both the place, that is the Original as well as Reference
getting updated
For Example,
AAA1001.jpg (Original asset in mediabin)
AAA1001.jpg (Reference)
=>Here if I update or input any Custom Metadata, it effect in Original asset also…why??

Greetings. That is how a reference works. Any changes (via check-in) to an asset or any metadata edits are reflected equally in all references. References are roughly analogous to Windows shortcuts or Unix symbolic links with a few differences. First, references do not break when the original asset is moved, and second references are automatically cleaned up when the original is deleted. In both cases the MediaBin server ensures that there are not "hanging" references.
The only properties that differ reference to reference are name, parent container, and a non-displayed piece of data called Time Stamp (available only via the search dialog and used internally for bin to bin syndication).
If you want a separate copy you need the "copy" command. Even then, a copy within MediaBin uses "write on modify" semantics so the underlying file r the larger pieces of metadata are not copied but shared until one or the other gets modified in which case each copy starts to get its own copy.
Hope this helps,
