I have a question regarding the BEA Bulkloader adapter.

It didn't mention if there were any limitations etc, so just to ask...

By deploying (with doDeletes) with OD and updating BEA WLP with the adapter, are all operations handled (IE create content, update content, delete content)?

I'm not sure how deletes are supposed to be handled. Would physically deleting the file on the source automatically delete the content (and metadata) in the portal?

Or do we have to deploy a property file marking the file deleted in the lifecycle?

I'm looking to see how seemless file operations will be - are deletions an exception?

Delete Content on the source with doDeletes on, should delete the content on the target directory.Subsequently the adapter should delete the files from the portal server.

Let me know, if you need any help or encounter some issues.

Were you able to delete content from Weblogic Portal using Bulkloader? If so, can you explain how you did it? The Bulkloader manual and OpenDeploy manual do not cover deleting Portal content using Bulkloader.

Nope - the bulkloader adapter is pretty useless - otherwise it works and I couldn't figure it out over 2 days.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but a delivery adapter is no different from a DNR except that runs a java class in the same vm instead of shelling a new command.

What's more - the bulk loader adapter doesn't use the bulkloader class - it shell's to the bulkloader command line tool.

I think for delete's you need to write a java wrapper around the bulkloader class - never got there with this... anyone else want to point this out and/or correct me about the bulkloader adapter - please do!

I am glad for an opportunirty to help you for a change a chance to return the favour.

We are using Teamsite 6.1 and BEA 8.1 sp4 on solaris.

We are successfully deleting content from the BEA vcr, it took some mucking around to start with.

To delete content the user selects the files to be deleted in TS and submits them to the deletion workflow, we have a separate deployment configuration for deletions.

We delete the md properties files prior to submission and remove them from the the workflow files prior to deployment as they are not needed like they are with content upload. Note the actual content files are not physically deleted from Teamsite until they are successfully deleted from the vcr.

I am no java guru and he has since moved on, but what I can do is attach a copy of the DNR script and the deployment config xml

Thanks Colin - we have similar scripts - I was trying to get away from this and make use of the OD adapter - though I haven't had much luck with it.

I was hoping that the performance might be better with bulk deployments.

Thanks for posting your working DNR script for deletions. Can you explain how you are adding and updating content in the BEA VCR? Are you using the Bulkloader adapter included with OpenDeploy or did you write your own DNR for new/updated content?
