ContentCenter user guides

Now that IW has listened to the user community and created ContentCenter user guides for TeamSite 6.5, are they going to be selling printed copies? What about printed copies of all the TeamSite and OpenDeploy manuals?

I am pretty sure you can order printed manuals from our fulfillment house. Manuals are printed on demand. You should contact your Interwoven Representative and ask how to do that.
I don't know whether we charge you for them or not, but I know you can get them.

Well, I talked to our rep, craig mortiz, and we can only get an entire set of documentation for $150. According to him, we can print the doc off the support site, and then head down to kinkos to have them printed out. Doesn't that sound like a fun-filled afternoon of work for a systems admin? This bites, we should be able to buy bound, printed copies of the UI guides if we want them, I think. Can anyone from IW give me a second opinion?

You seem to be willing to *buy* printed copies of manuals, and as you mentioned, you can purchase the entire set for $150 (according to Craig).
So whats the issue here ?
$150 v/s a fun-filled afternoon of work which includes a trip to kinkos - seems to me like a reasonable price.
NathansDIS
Did you read my post?
The issue is I don't need 50 printed copies of the TS 6.5 admin manual (and all the other manuals associated with TS 6.5), I only need 50 printed copies of the UI user's guide manuals. You can't buy a UI guide without also purchasing the rest of the manuals (whether you need them or not) for 150 bucks.

Yes I read your post. And I read the whole thread again to see where, prior to this post, you had asked for getting 50 copies of Users Guide. On the contrary, the earlier posts seem to inquire about not only getting printed copy of user guides but admin guide as well.
And now that you clarify, I see what the issue is

BTW, how much are you willing to pay ? maybe you can pay somebody who is willing to take a printout, go to kinkos, make 50 copies, bind them and ship it to you

If you download the PDFs you want printed and bound to a CDROM and take it to Kinko's I'm pretty sure that they can take it from there, make as many copies as you want, duplex, and bound however you want it (within reason) and you probably don't have to sit there and wait for it. You can either drop it off and pick it up later or perhaps they even provide a delivery service.
I have no idea how much it would cost to do all that - but I'm sure your friendly neighborhood Kinko's rep will be willing to give you an estimate before they actually perform the work for you.

Not necessarily.
Many companies are strict about copying copyrighted material, which the manuals are. It
may require a letter from IW saying that Nathan has the right to copy it.
I was given a hard time trying to copy IW manuals & I worked for IW (even showed a IW business
card)

Perhaps IW determined that the users don't really want a 'printed' copy of the manual. But they are getting better; they used to claim that the users didn't want a manual at all. I'm really hoping someone from IW with a customer service bent will jump in here and tell me who will take my order. -n

In that case, the alternative would be offshore the work of printing and making 50 copies to some country where copyright laws (if they exist) allow photocopying product manuals.
But then I am not sure if its legal to export the soft copy of the manual !
Kidding aside, you bring a good point though.

Glad to see that ater 1800 posts, I actually added some value.

Did you have doubts about it ? I didn't.

Don't send our work off shore.... Just don't do it... Let someone at Kinko's do it. Just don't print the copyright page, and if they ask if this is copyrighted say "NO" ;-)

But then, its not a lie if you believe it

I forwarded a note to the people who might be able to make this happen. To my knowledge this is the first time someone has requested this.....
We use a fulfillment house to print-on-demand. I think there are some adminstrative hoops to jump through to set this up, but hopefully someone will get back to me,

I printed all the manual myself and put them into binders... Is that a problem at your organization?
but, frankly, I hardly use a printed copy at all....

Thanks for checking on this... also just in case someone want's to print them and have Kinko's or their local copy shop do it.... can you create some type of form letter giving people permission to print and copy the user's guides?
That way I don't have to worry with skipping that copyright page ;-)

Hello:
I contacted our print vendor to get more information about your request. They are able to print individual copies of the manuals; however, there is a minimum print run of 5 copies. This seems pretty reasonable for the user guides, but let me know if you disagree. The price for individual copies of the manuals should be pretty competitive with options like printing them with Kinkos. If you would like to know the order amounts, or any additional information, please let me know.
Thanks,
