Timeouts and DNR
bturns
TS 5.5.2
OD 6.0.1
We are trying to implement timeouts on some of our deployments that run DNR scripts. Occasionally the DNR scripts will hang and return nothing to the deployment causing the deployment to hang for obscene amounts of time. We put a timeout of 10 hours in our script. However, after putting this in a deployment still ran for over 26 hours.
Does anyone know if a timeout will happen on a deployment while a DNR is running? Right now it appears that the timeout does not happen with DNR's.
Thanks,
Brian

Brian,
It should work.
Note the following from the OD Admin Guide...
"Note that it may take as along as three times the timeout value for the deployment job to end."
Reason for this is the handshake protocol has to unwind, which sometimes results in the job sometimes taking up to 3x the amount of time to finally conclude.

Thanks Todd,
We just ran a test deployment and it didn't seem to time out correctly. Would you mind taking a look at this deployment and letting us know if you see anything wrong?
Anyone else have any input?
Thanks,
Brian

I don't see anything wrong. Seems the timeout feature shouldn't care whether a long running DNR or something like a long running comparison phase causes socket inactivity.
You may need to work with Tech Support to determine whether there's a problem with timeout for your use case.
