3rd time a charm?
I stopped the OD server again
I restarted the OD server again
I ran the deployment again -- this time it didn't hang.
I ran the deployment a couple of more times - no hanging.

Not sure what was going on - but as long as it contines to work I'll be happy.

Unrelated to your problem, but we are planning on implementing a similar thing (moving code out of TeamSite and executing post processing). Where do you capture the output of the commands such as make_toolkit? Is this deployment kicked off after any submission, or is it edition based?

The DNR script captures the output and includes it in email sent to the developers/administrators (right now the email isn't working here - but that's an IT thing not a code thing ;-)

Currently the deployment is being invoked by hand and performs a directory-comparison between the local disk and the staging area of the branch where everything is stored (HINT: layout the directory structure in the branch as if it were the local disk)

I actually have the DNR script (async="no") call another script that's forked into the background (using '&' after the command) which runs a loop checking iwodcmd serverstatus in order to determine when it's "safe" to run /etc/init.d/iwod60 restart. Right now I have the running of make_toolkit.ipl in that second script too - though I'm not sure if it's necessary.

The whole thing is being worked on sporadically while other work is being tended to. Eventually I intend to plug it into a workflow that will run on the code branches only.

Fish, has this been fixed? We are having the same problem but with OpenDeploy 6.0.0.0.0
I can upgrade to 6.0.2 but I dont want to find I'm still bouncing OpenDeploy / DataDeploy every 30 mins

I have not re-experienced the problem after the 3rd restart after the initial upgrade -- so it's unclear what actually happened / caused the problem initially.
So I'm not sure it's "fixed" but neither am I sure that it was ever really "broken" ...

The biggest problem with 6.0.2 right now is that you have to *enable* every user who might possibly own the externaltask which will fire off the deployment from the command line - because 6.0.2 does some rudimentary authentication checking (userid checking only, no password, and apparently *any* user can modify the data of who is / is not allowed to run certain deployments. This has already been filed as a bug (perhaps more than one) and hopefully will be fixed with a patch or SP in the relatively near future ...

We have a DNR for deploying metadata as part of our workflow deployment process for content.
For the code release deployment - the DNR does not do anything with metadata.
