Did you search the forums ? This has been discussed plenty of times.
(I just did a search for the words "index" "dcr" and "page", and I got atleast a few posts discussing what you are looking for)
madmax
i looked but that's not the info i am looking for.

Can you provide little bit detail on what info you are looking for/what you are trying to accomplish?
When you say " am trying to code a templates for indexing all the dcr as a link" do you mean you are trying to code a presentation template? Which DCRs are you refering to?
madmax
thanks for asking me questions. let me scatch the whole situation.
i am trying to code a presentation template which will generate a html index page. in the html page it'll have hyperlinks of all the published date and title of archaived news article. when user will click each links it'll pop up that news article.
so i have dct and presentation template for generating the html news article.now i think i need to create another template to index all those html page with their published date. by the way this whole thing is dynamic means user will use only dct to generate the initial news article and then will name it as published date.so the index presentaion template will create rest of the hyperlinks by date and title .
any suggestion will help me a lot.
u can see real example in msn.com and many other news sites. they have popular news link and then they have more news link which will give access to all the news article.
thanks

Have not used them for a while, but if I recall correctly, the examples include with TST have
this functionality with the press releases.
Have you checked those out ?

"now i think i need to create another template to index all those html page with their published date" do you mean creating a new data-type??
I don't know what's your requirement on the index page, but you could very well use a different data type in which the DCT has a VFE field where the users lists the index page link titles and uses "New Hyperlink" option of VFE to browse to the generated HTML files.
If the users do not want to take the responsibility of maintaining this Index page, then what's their criteria for creating this index page? How does having a different data-type help here?

dear cliff and everybody,
is it possible to create dynamic index templates which will fetch dynamically the last 5 news articles from teamsite and show them as 5 seperate link?
madmax
i am attaching a view of what i am trying to achieve. in the sample screen shot u can see there are some links for entertainment if user click those links then it'll take them to that entertainment news article. and more entertainment will bring all the list of entertainment news article which will be shorted by date.
i hope this will help others to give me some directions before i start desinging the presentation templates. plz advice if this can be achieve by some other way.
this whole thing will be on a web-logic portal. so do i required to do the templating or they required to do templating. there are others functionality is attched with this template too , such as sort by date , month, year and show all news article.
plzz question and advice me.
thanks

I think what you're looking for is to push the headlines (with date information) into a DB and have a page on your web server that retrieves information from the DB to show the last 5 headlines (or something like that). Remember TeamSite is on the development side - so there's nothing really dynamic about it.

ok there is no such dynamic template i got that idea. thanks ghoti. now is it possible to create a index page of all the news article by date and a title? i am sending you a screen shot of what i want .
cliffhanger
Very True!
We have something very similar implemented in our system where we push the "content"( In madmax's case it would probably be the link title and the url) to the database.
The web guys have a page where they retrieve these information from the database and displays on the web.
cliffhanger
Yes it is, but as fish mentioned it would be much easier if that's handled by a page on the web server. That will save the maintenance-cost of the index template.
Adam Stoller
Sure its possible - either with a PT or just a script that you run that does essentially the same thing. The PT may be easier because it provides you the parsing routines.
I'm sure this has been discussed before on the forums - have you searched? You might also want to go through a templating training course since I'm pretty sure something like this would be covered there.

Sure, it's possible in teamsite to create an index page with dates & titles listed. You've got to figure out the details of exactly how you want it to act, then write some perl to traverse the directory & build the index page based on each DCR's title & date fields.
What are you envisioning, something that updates every night, or does it need to be updated every time there's a new article added, or what? If it's frequently updated and you always want the latest & greatest live ASAP, I agree with fish & cliffhanger, it might be more efficient to have a dynamic web server pulling from a database.

hi everybody ,
yes something that updates every night, or it does need to be updated every time when there's a new article added.
so it's not a wise idea to do indexing by presentation templates coz later on my client want's add more feature on that indexing and if i push all the content to the db then everything can be done by quering the db easily , right.
plz advice and question me.
