task manager/record manager
peter_choe
I am looking at what task manager and record manager can do. I sort of understand that Record Manager is able to provide rules about what to do with documents after some time has passed or prevent documents from being changed. And that task manager needs to be configured for it to work. But I am not sure what is the exact relationship between the Record Manager and task manager.
Is task manager a scheduling system to manage Record Manager? What does the task manager actually do?

Hi Peter -
There is no direct relationship between them. Records Manager contains a client piece for your records manager to be able to apply legal holds and retention policies to objects. The documents cannot be deleted once they have been established as a record until the retention period is over.

Some activities in Records Manager can be very time consuming. For example, declaring a folder with thousands of documents. These activities are NOT executed synchronously, a task is created for them, and Task Manager processes them in the background.
To use the Records Management features, Task Manager must be configured and running.

Oops! I stand corrected. For some reason, when Peter said Task Manager, I was thinking of WorkRoute.
