iw include

yanSi

I'm having a problem with a presentation template involving the iw_include tag. I have included snippets of code and explanations in the attached file.

Just to clarify... when you say...
$ns="right"; //hard coded, used to be $iw_arg{nameSpace};

...I'm presuming you mean the part you can't get to work used to be coded like this, right?...
$ns=iwpt_dcr_value('$iw_arg{nameSpace}');

yanSi

No, it used to be
$ns=$iw_arg{nameSpace};

If I do a iwpt_output($ns); after that line, the output is "right" which is correct.

I also tried your suggestion
$ns=iwpt_dcr_value('$iw_arg{nameSpace}');
with the iwpt_output($ns); after it. That also produced the correct output "right".

However, the values in the dcr being included is not being pulled out. If the string "right" was hardcoded (without using the include statement), the values are pulled out correctly.

Wouldn't you have to put the <iw_load_dcr> in Part_announcement.tpl? Otherwise, how does the iw_perl in P_a.tpl know which DCR "right.page.page_info.page_title" refers to?

I've tried to simulate what you're doing in our environment, and that was the only way I could get it to display the desired result.

The iw load dcr statement exists in indexCorporate.tpl (see attached) It is there that I assign the var name "right" when I load a dcr. After I load the dcr, I include Part_announcement and pass it the value "right".

I'm doing the same thing in another tpl but instead of passing "right" I'm passing "dcr" and that works.

When you do an include, the Interwoven Presentation Template Processor (or whatever its called) just simply takes whatever is in the include file, replaces the iw_include statement with it and then processes the page right? That way there's no issues with variables going out of scope eh?

I'll try your suggestion by putting the load statement in Part_announcement.tpl and pass the dcr to load. But if that works, I still would like to know why my approach didn't.

attached is componentCorporatePreview.tpl. The include in there works but instead of passing "right" it passes "dcr" to partAnnouncement.tpl

You have to to a "save target as" on this attachment.

Not sure if this is true, I'm thinking not, based on my tests. I think it compiles the include, THEN brings the result in, vs. bringing in the include, then compiling. Maybe someone else can chime in?

Also, my *guess* is that it works when "dcr" is passed in because it's taking whatever dcr is being used to compile the page. Versus when the value is "right", it doesn't know which dcr you're referring to.

I think mogoo is correct, but I'm only basing this from my own observations, too.

Think of it like this: when you have an iw_include that either does NOT compile properly or does NOT return the desired result, the DCT is still displayed, although without the intended include. I'm thinking specifically about drop-down lists. If there's an issue retrieving the intended values, the list displays nothing. This leads me to believe that the include is compiled and then incorporated into the DCT.

Thanks for your help guys. It looks like you are right. The include is compiled first.

I used your suggestion about passing the path to the include and then load the dcr from the include file and that works.
