Maintaining a 1500+ user base in TeamSite
Homeslice
Hello all!
Has anyone out there ever encountered (let alone administered) a TeamSite implementation with more than 1500 users? How do you go about making this manageable? Does each user have a separate account, or do you create, for example ~200 generic accounts?
Thanks!
Jonny.

Generic accounts would almost definitely be a violation of the TeamSite licensing contract.
You'd create separate accounts for each - perhaps making use of full LDAP authentication where you could store the user's roles within LDAP...

I hope you get a discount on your cost per user. Yikes.
Go with the Full LDAP implementation as ghoti suggests. It would be a management nightmare to add users and their roles separately.

In addition, generic accounts defeats the purpose of using version control, collaboration, locking, etc. (generally speaking.)

Also see if you can determine the types of users... i.e. some who just need to review or work through emails... this way you could purchase the lower level users to save a little money.
You should talk to the Sales Rep to see what discounts you can get.
Go with LDAP, cause ADS is microsoft and pure evil... :-) Just kidding...
You will want to plan the rollout as well. In otherwords on day one will you have that many users or can you phase them in over a period of time. Consider your training options as well.

Could you clarify what you mean by "add users and their roles separately". We have ~800 users and have the following in place on our solaris TS 552 box.
1) user accounts: created locally on solaris box
2) user passwords: NT passwords verified via PAM module
3) user roles: located in the .uid files... we update this manually
Is this the nightmare you refer to?

Don't get too hooked on the use of the roles/*.uid files. Rumor has it they are going away - AND SOON.
