loading a dcr into a dct depending on user input
Jamagui
I have a dct where users will select a category and subcategory. Depending on the category/subcategory combination the user picks, I want to load up a dcr that has questions that are relevant to the category and subcategory. My question is how do you load up a dcr into a dct? I would prefer to use the scripts in the ipl, but if another way is possible I would like to know too. Thanks

what do you mean by "load up a dcr into a dct"? DCT is the file which enables one to create DCRs. Do you mean to control the availablitiy/display of the fields in DCT based on category and subcategory selection?

Have you considered using the templating category/datatypes for this? You could have a generic dct with a single inline that loads the correct fields based on category/datatype.

It will be good, if you can elaborate your problem. It is helpful for spot answer of your questions always.
Thanks Nicholas

Let me try to clarify my problem. It could be as simple as I have a dct that has a picklist that is filled with dcr names. I would like to know if the user selects a dcr name from the picklist, how to load the data from the dcr into the dct. So what I am saying is that I want a dct to be able to generate and alter many dcrs depending on what is chosen in the picklist. My problem is that I do not know how to load the data from an existing dcr into a dct.

Are you trying to load one DCR into another DCR/DCT?
Or do you want to simply launch the editing of one DCR from another DCR/DCT ?
The former doesn't really make much sense to me -- if that's what you want - perhaps you can elaborate (a lot) on the use-case scenario?
The latter could be done with either CallServer() via FormAPI or a cgi-callout using the correct CCI URL and plugging in the selected value from the drop-down list.
