Password length issue
System
Hi,
We use Teamsite 6.1 running on Windows 2003.
We have an user who claims that he was not able to login into Teamsite. He can login now after changing password from 16 to 10 characters long. Have you ever experienced this type of issue? I am not sure the length of the password caused his login issue.
Regards,

Yes, I have seen this before. In our case (running on Solaris) it was a 18 character password
that we had to lower.
IIRC, it has something to do with how TS communicates with the underlying OS for password
verification.
Support can answer your question in detail (as to how many characters is the max) but IMHO
anyone with a 16 character password is a ****.

OK, you are right. IW support just points me on this KB:
https://support.interwoven.com/kb/kb_show_article2.asp?ArticleID=48490
(Maximum 14 characters for Teamsite 5.5 and above).
But, honestly, if Teamsite is using OS for authentication, why would Teamsite put a size limitation on the ID and password length? Should not this be decided by the OS?

... or an ****-retentive systems administrator-type person. C'mon, you know the type of person I'm talking about. You've probably come across a few of them over the years. I know I have! Their password is 29 characters long, they change it not more than every 18 hours and the password always contains at least three Chinese characters.
I've painted a picture, haven't I?

(2) TS 6.1 SP1 on W2K3
By the way, I miss Unix terribly.

Dave, you are not supposed to describe yourself in that much detail in these forums.

Actually it is support to the least common demoninator. IIRC Windows NT did not support > 14 characters for pw. I think that
limitation is now gone but it does not appear TS has caught up.

Oooh, whoops! C'mon, seriously, I came across one of these people recently and I thought it might be nice to have a sequel to "Office Space" (like, "Office Space: After the Boom") and have that character be part of the cast.
