new one? or modify a jsp?

Ok,

Just curious everyone's thoughts... I needed to change the task_properties.jsp file to include a drop down list of authors for the owner. This way if it's a group task someone else in the group can assign it to another person etc... anyway I have it working now but just modifying the task_properties.jsp.

I placed mine in the iw-home\local\config\lib\content_center\customer_src\web\ccpro\workflow and made the app. So now my question is should I have done that or should I have changed the reference to be dave_task_properties.jsp and not touched the default one...

Just curious of opinions...

I would presume that what you have done is not supported and could be overwritten in the future with a service pack or patch. I would create a local one and build the application that way. However, it may be tricky to embed your jsp seamlessly into Content Center. Would have to know a little more to make the call, but we were discouraged from changing any of the JSPs. Also, did you look into adding this as a custom column perhaps? I know that is supported.

I'm not too worried about it being overwritten since I've added it into the customer_src and then run the maketoolkits... but again I could create this as a jsp named something different... then I'd have to change the link reference... so I'm still leaning towards just doing this. When I upgrade I may have to make the changes again if they change that jsp, but I'd have to do that anyway if I create a new one with a different name...

Dave,

Nothing in the contentcenter will overwrite your code in the customer_src. While I will agree with the statement that a future release might require you to change your jsp, that is true for all customizations.

I agree, and that is how I meant to say it. I kind of like how easy it is to simply change the jsp I needed instead of copying and rewriting it etc. Since as you say customer_src is not overwritten, and if there's a change in process it will have to be done again after an upgrade.

Also the way I understand the build process customer_src is applied last. I was just curious if other people were making new jsp files for things like this or simply modifying the one they need.

I've been modifying the ones I need and putting them in customer_src without renaming them. I think it's the easiest configuration to maintain.
