Moving the Backing Store
frogman
Hi,
We are moving the Backing Store to a SAN drive.
Platform is:
O/S: Win Server 2003
Version: 6.1.0 Service Pack 2
Build Number: 43683
I have looked for a difinitive guide to doing this safely. The Teamsite administration guide says to simply deactivate the existing store, move the iw-store directory to the new location and reactivate it - This seems very limited for what is a fairly serious operation.
Does anybody know of the 'best practice' for doing this with minimum risk of data loss?
Thanks
Mike

what do you want to hear?
ask some Brambles armored vans to come and take you backup tape to a secure location...
seriously, there should not be too many issue. I'd do iwfsck before and after the move, though.

Hi,
what's with a "diff" between source and target location after copying the store?
frogman
Did it with no problems although "My Workareas" disappeared in CC Standard - but everything appears to work OK.
Typical Interwoven Documentation issue though - They fail to mention anywhere about excluding the Lockfile when copying the iw-store. Its always sooooo frustrating that the paucity of their documentation causes so much additional time and effort on the part of developers who are trying to promote the product. </ rant>
Cheers

I am not sure that My Workareas portlet is somehow related to your backing store migration.
Did you run any patches while moving the store.
also, I don't think I ever cared about lockfiles...

Hi Greg,
All went OK. I found a batch file on another thread that helped. Simple really.

Hi
Can u please send me the thread (script) URL?
Thanks in advance
frogman
Try this:
@echo
OFF
echo Copying Data...
rmdir e:\iw-store-backup\ /S /Q
mkdir e:\iw-store-backup\
iwfreeze +500
xcopy e:\iw-store e:\iw-store-backup /E /H /EXCLUDE:e:\exclusions.txt
iwfreeze --
echo Done Copying!
File: exclusions.txt
LOCKFILE
This will create a backup of your backing store. It can be edited it to use as a tool for moving the backing store:
