For giggles I downloaded the "DevNet TeamSite WebServices CS" package the other day. It would not let me do the install on my WinXP laptop because I was not on a supported platform (or something similar to that effect). Why are their such strict platform requirements? In theory, all I really have to do is grab all the jar files and I am good to go. In fact, I did this on a solaris x86 box by manually unzipping the installer files. I have been able to write simple cssdk code without any issues.
Will the installer be more liberal in the future? I understand there can only be small subset of supported platforms, but shouldn't a warning message suffice instead of a hard exit?
