Branch has only one version in STAGING

We have a branch that was set up almost 2 years ago, and we just noticed that the STAGING area only contains the most previously submitted item. This branch is one of our early branches; since that time, a contractor developed a custom menu item that creates branches and workareas for us that integrates with our LDAP repository to set permissions. However, this branch was created before that module was created, so who knows what parameters were used to create the group. Any thoughts as to where to start to figure out how to either access or begin saving all versions that were submitted?

The staging area for any branch only holds the most recently submitted version of a file.
The other versions of the files are stored in 'history' in the backing store and usually, periodically captured in editions.
You can select a file in your workarea or staging area and then do View > History (5.x) or File > Versions (6.x) to see past versions of the file within the TS GUI.
You can use the CLT iwrlog to do the same thing from the command line.

I didn't describe the situation very well. Your right; STAGING only has the one version. But when I view History (5.5.2), I only see the current version in STAGING. I'm not retaining the older versions. Perhaps the branch is not defined to track the editions properly?

Are you sure you're looking at a file that has multiple versions [in that backing store]?
5.5.2 creates hidden editions for each submission that occurs - if the file hasn't been modified and submitted (other than the first time it was created) then there are no versions for it to show.
Can you post the output of:
iwrlog
vpath-to-file
for the specific file you are talking about in your posts here?

My understanding is that this file was updated several times, I replicated this problem with a different file where I created a file, submitted it, updated, submitted, and updated, with similar results.

That is very strange. This is basic functionality.
Can you check the submi.log ?
How are you submitting ? Direct ?

and post the results.

I agree. It looks as though it's creation a version of it though based on the "#329" in the log output. Might it be cutting an edition before submitting and doing
something
such that there would be only one version in staging? Might it be something in submit.cfg that could be messing this up?
What does the workarea copy look like?

My guess would be that if you did:
iwrlog /default/main/
uprr/customers/ind-prod/
/STAGING/templatedata/public/content/data/secure/construct/rock_speeds
you'll seee information about 36 (
or more
) revisions of this file - but that only the 36th version of this file was copied to /default/main/branch/ind-prod - and so revision number 36 from the first branch represents the 1 revision of the file on the seocnd branch.
Failing that - I'd be curious to see if Support or anyone else can explain it ...

The differences there were I was trying to not post our site organization on the internet, but since I goofed and didn't change everything to match, that was of no benefit to anyone.
So I created a file, submitted/deployed, edited, submitted/deployed again, and this is what I got with iwrlog
