Teamsite comparison
bpg
g'day,
im attempting to perform a TS comparison which will then deploy the difference to a mirrored workarea on a dev instance of teamsite. here is the file that ive created so far. any suggesions as to things i might have missed etc would be greatly appreciated. i tried a simulated deployment with this config and it just sat there, not doing much:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1" ?>
<deploymentConfiguration >
<logRules maxBytes="32Mb" level="verbose" />
<localNode host="RCITDCCMA" timeout="" blockMaxWaitTime="" blockCheckInterval="" />
<replicationFarmSet >
<replicationFarm name="MYFARMNAME" quorum="" >
<nodeRef useNode="DEPLOYTEST.rogers.ca" >
<targetRules area="" />
</nodeRef>
</replicationFarm>
</replicationFarmSet>
<definition name="MYDEFINITIONNAME" >
<source >
<sourceTeamsite area="Y:\default\main\Test_Branch\STAGING" previousArea="Y:\default\main\Test_Branch\STAGING\IW_PREV" >
<pathSpecification >
<path name="." />
</pathSpecification>
</sourceTeamsite>
</source>
<target useReplicationFarm="MYFARMNAME" >
<targetTeamsite applyExtAttrs="yes" area="\\rciesncmb\iwserver\default\main\test_branch\test_wa" >
<pathSpecification >
<path name="." />
</pathSpecification>
</targetTeamsite>
<replicationFarmLink >
<internal name="MYFARMNAME" />
</replicationFarmLink>
</target>
</definition>
<deployment transactional="no" >
<execDeploymentTask useDefinition="MYDEFINITIONNAME" />
</deployment>
</deploymentConfiguration>
many thanks in anticipation.

You should take a class on OpenDeploy, because you certainly need some help.
Do you understand TeamSite comparison ? Does not look like it. In your example I
can understand the confusion.
TeamSite comparison means, I deployed from Edition 123 previously (known as
IW_PREV) and am deploying from Edition 124, so TS should figure out what has changed
and only send that. It cannot be done from Staging.
So, are you creating editions ?
If no, then you need a different idea (filelist or date comparison).

andy,
while i honestly appreciate you taking time out to answer my query, how about next time you try not to reply with so much condescension?
all i want is suggestions to my question, not a reflection of how good you are. if i knew the **** answer i wouldnt be asking, would i? btw, try reading pg 105 of the od 6.0.1 admin guide. clearly says you can do comparisons from staging...

but anyway, for anyone else that would like to answer: im not creating editions but thought that you could maybe do a comparison between staging and workareas and then deploy that to a workarea on a separate server. if a filelist is indeed what is required, how do i define this and also, how do i define the path to the remote server? simply using unc?
many thanks in anticipation

You can do a comparison between any two TeamSite areas (two workareas, workarea and staging, workarea and edition, staging and edition, two editons)
You can only use IW_PREV with editions - it has no meaning following "STAGING"

cheers fish, i appreciate that. i didnt realise that you couldnt use IW_PREV with staging
i also realised that i need to use the <iwStore> tag so prob best if i start over

Does it make sense to do a OD compare between WA and Stage ? Only you can
answer that & it is very dependent on your process.
You can do that, as Fish said, however if you are using workflow to submit,
you can very easily get mixed up. That is an instance of answering your question,
however, it may really screw things up.
Do you use workflow ? Would it work to deploy content that was in
a WF task ? There is sample code you can use. Basically in the WFT
initiate a external process that reads the files and builds filelist and sends
it out.
If you do not want it tied to a WF, then either, as part of the OD invokation,
create an Edition and then use IW_PREV, or use a date based comparison.

ok, well ive been trying to get the config right for this teamsite comparison. od admin seems to like the config file but every time i attempt a simulated deployment, it just hangs and stops writing to the micro log. if someone could have a look at the config below and let me know if im missing something obvious then thatd be much appreciated.
btw, does anybody else have a setup in situ that allows for file comparisons to b deployed to another server (i.e. a dev server)? if so, id appreciate a quick gander at your config file
regards,
brendan
