To get the processing time for a Job

Hi ,
I have a situation where we have too many workflows in teamsite.And there are obviusly many task(s)(under various jobs) which are corrupt.
Now i ahve one application which is retriving all the active workflows from teamsite and giving me the respective details.
When my perl file is retrieving active workflows , using GetActiveWorkflows from WFworkflow.pm, it is taking too much time to process.
My plan of action is like this ::

>>loop through all the workflows
>>get the jobids which are taking too much time.
>>And delete all those jobs

Am i moving in the right direction.Please improve my approach.

Hi Pranav,
why do you have so much jobs hanging around in TeamSite?
First of all, you should check, why these workflows don't finish correctly...
It's better to do some error handling on an occuring workflow error than deleting it.

In my application content is being submitted from portal (plumtree) and we are triggering the workflow from portal itself . So many a times the workflow gets stuck in between.Lets say i have 10 aaprovers and then datdeploy and finally opendeploy has be done. When one specific workflow is under the process and someone in between rest the team site or opendeploy script fails then the whole workflow gets corrupts and reside in teamsite like a virus. Although the owner gets a mail about job failure but everyone doesn't have the access to teamsite , so can't delete that workflow. Now if there are too many workflows like this getting triggered from various geaographical locations then having update of all the workflows is real pain.

We have in all 3-4 active teamsite servers.My plan is to create one application in perl which will read the server name from user(Mainly administrator) and will scan that specific server for all the corrupt workflows (If any task is corrupt for a workflow then that workflow will be takes as corrupt workflow ) and will give all those jobids for all the workflows.And also for specific job id it will give the task id(s) which is responsible for making the workflow corrupt .
Once i get the list of all the jobids , i will delete all those workflows from teamsite using iwrmjob....

Please point me if i am wrong.And of cource i need lots of help from you guys.

I think the term "corrupt" is wrong ("stuck" or "hung" or "in limbo" are probably more accurate adjectives) - otherwise your description probably does justice to the situation.

I'm not sure what you can do about "speed" here:

You might be able to improve your existing code.
You might be able to retrieve all the information you want by processing the output of a single call to iwgetwfobj -r with something like TeamSite::XMLnode or any one of a dozen or so XML processing modules that exist out there.
You might be able to use the CSSDK instead of Perl (hard to believe I'm saying this) as it might be faster.

The fact that you have so many jobs hanging around is what causes the processing of the information to take longer - but it shouldn't (IMO) take all that long if coded well.

YES!! i shouldn't use "corrupt", but these workflows took so much of my time to detect. Its my agony which forced me to use this word,

Frankly speaking i havn't used CSSDK till now.I have just planned to run a small sample application which is there on support center.
Now, i request you to guide me learn CSSDK also. and how to use this instead of using perl ?.

First things first - don't use <pre>...</pre> style formatting in your posts if you're going to type really long lines - it makes it a pain to read - and I (and possibly others) tend to ignore them in those cases.

Secondly - there is no such thing as "The Best Workflow" - that's like asking for "The Best Process", "The Best Recipe", etc. - it's far to vague a qualifier to warrant a reasonable response.

I create workflows as I need them based on the requirements - not the other way around.

All that being said - if you don't post your code - don't expect anyone else to bother trying to write it for free for you. I'm often willing to improve code that's posted if/when I find time - but only rarely am I willing to spend my time (for free) to write the entire code for someone else.

Take all the time you want - it's not my project.
If you don't know anything about XML processing - you should probably spend some time learning it.
If you do know something about XML processing - this shouldn't take you that long to digest.
