checking for empty container

I am coding some logic into a tpl, and have the following code:

my $include=iwpt_dcr_value('SIDENAV.RIGHTNAVIGATION');

I basically want to check if the navigation container is blank, and if it is not, go through it and write stuff out, but this is not working if it is blank. it always writes out the contents of the replicant.

any ideas?

It looks like you're trying to check if the container is empty. You probably want to check if the field(s) within the container are emtpy within your iterate.

if ($include ne "") Perhaps you could do something with if ($include ). I believe iwpt_dcr_value() returns undef if the item is empty, so it is safer to do it this way.

But again, choice is yours :-)

This might be handy to some... it's a generic routine that tells you if all fields are empty or not. It's recursive so it will take any kind of nested accessor path.


# checks an accessor string and all it's childen to see if it contains any data entries.
# iterates through an accessor discovering new nodes. If all nodes contain no/empty data - routine will return 0 (false)
# if any nodes contain data, the routine will stop, returning 1 true

You should be able to just copy and paste it into your template and then use it as Johnny explains in the comments for the function.

Edit: If it's not obvious, the function must be pasted within an iw_perl section.

There must be a way it can be installed so that any PT can use it?

There was a thread a little while back where someone tried to create a perl module that used the PT functions, but I believe they were unsuccessful. You could probably do it with an iw_include though.

I don't think you are using iw_load_dcr correctly. Shouldn't file_val point to a dcr file?.

1. provide some context on what it is you are trying to do
2. attach (not copy/paste) your tpl and an example dcr
