OutOfMemoryError

I am running OpenDeploy 6.0.2 on Solaris 2.9. Open Deploy has been running without any problems for some time now, but I just got the following message when trying to login:

HTTP Status 500 -
type Exception report
message
description The server encountered an internal error () that prevented it from fulfilling this request.
exception javax.servlet.ServletException: Servlet execution threw an exception

root cause java.lang.OutOfMemoryError

note The full stack trace of the root cause is available in the Apache Tomcat/5.0.27 logs.

I stopped and started all the services, now everything is working again. I checked the log files and didn't see any thing out of the ordinary. Is there any suggestions as to what the cause could be?

are there any news on this issue?

I get this java.lang.OutOfMemoryError on my OD Admin UI on two of my TS servers, too.

Environment on both servers is:
Win 2003 EE english
TS 6.5 SP1
OD 6.0.2 + Patch ID 1572

There's some more information in my <hostname>_odadmin_servletd.log:

In the AdminEventReporting.xml file, comment out the following section as I did below:




After doing this, restart the OD services. This seems to be working for me. Before I made the change, I was getting the error about every other week. It has now been over 3 weeks and things are still going good (crossing my fingers).

I was having problems with OpenDeploy Admin Server. Open Deploy itself was still running fine.

Port 9172 is used for event reporting. There is a known issue around memory problems and event reporting. If you are not interested in reporting, you can disable it in odbase.xml (or odrcvr.xml)

Ok, I commented out the given line in adminEventReportingConfig.xml and restarted the OD services.

When I initially did the upgrade to OD 6.0.2, I had a problem with the event reporting tring to write to the default database. For some reason, Interwoven has the default set to a file (or something like that) for the event reporting database. They expect that if you are going to use Event Reporting, that you will update a database like oracle or sql server. I had to comment out the event reporting starting up in order to get get that resolved. It was also giving me an out of memory error. I would try that, and if you still have issues, I would contact tech support.

I did not remove that from my config file. I ended up commenting out the event reporting start and stop scripts from the iw.server file.

in unix land, it will default to /etc/init.d/iw.server. I don't know where it ends up on Windows

Hi,
in windows environment you have services,
I don't think, that there's an iw.server-file (well, I don't have heard something about such a file...)
So, if you want to disable event reporting you should disable your windows service.

I edited (in win land :-) the file adminEventReportingConfig.xml three weeks ago,
and since this, I don't have any problems with OD UI memory errors.

we need event subsystem so i dont want to disable the service...

if i look in

\Interwoven\AdminServer\odadmin\db i see some of the eventReporting.db.**** files as big as 32 meg!
