Great, that works. It gives me in this format: Mod Date = Tue Sep 20 15:32:33 2005.
How can I have it return me in MM/DD/YYYY format? Can I provide mask some where??
thanks

Either convert it yourself or use something like Date::Manip to parse the date string and then let you print it out in some other format.

Convert it yourself means exactly what he says, write yoru own function to parse it and create the format you want or use a module like Date::Manip (perldoc Date::Manip).
