Reporting without Crystal?

So, I've got an Oracle DB at my disposal and I have a custom (hacky) reporting infrastructure writing to it. I would love to scrap it and go with the out-of-the-box reporting except we are not really interested in paying extra for Crystal Enterprise since reports will not be run very frequently and are not high priority. Is it possible to extract reporting information manually or is it carefully encrypted in Crystal-only format?

The reporting centre (in 6.5 at least) records all it's data to a database (Oracle 8/9i, MS SQL Server 2000, DB2 8.1) and in to a published schema (p150 in the UNIX Admin Guide).

Given that you can either write your own reporting tool, or probably plug in most 3rd party reporting tools.

I think misspoke about the products installed. I meant the event subsystem and not the reporting center. It looks like the reporting center is another add-on tool at a modest additional cost as well. What I want to do is analyze the event subsystem data to generate reports. That schema doesn't seem to be published anywhere. It mentions that it is JMS compatible, but I am not sure what that means.
