Delete files

I am trying to delete files from the staging area but getting this prompt message."Delete Content:Command does not work in the staging area".
Is there any way to make it work??

How are you trying to delete it?

In general, first you delete it from the workarea, than you "submit" the deletion.

On the command line that would look something like this (on unix):

rm /.iwmnt/default/main/WORKAREA/foo/file.text
iwsubmit /default/main/WORKAREA/foo/file.text 'buh-bye for now'

TS 6.1 SP1 on Windows, I see a problem in deleting files. it could be a feature in fact.

I have tried deleting files from workarea, submitted them. That didn't delete files neither from staging nor from workarea. I can see those files if I chose an option "All and Deleted files". Also, I observed that there is a restore link enabled beside properties link for all deleted files.

I am guessing that it could be configurable. I wonder if anyone has a clue on this.
I am still doing my research though, I appreciate all inputs on this.

Are you sure your submit completed? It's possible TS decided there was a conflict and you may have a conflict-task waiting for your attention...

Get out of the Staging area. You cannot delete or submit files from that area. You MUST be in the workarea to do so.

As for the View All and Deleted showing the red X's that's the way it's supposed to work. The revert is to help you get back deleted files, Teamsite is a version control software and that allows recovery of deleted files. Note: Only files that have submitted at least once can seen by "View All and Deleted" or can be restored using the revert button.

I did exactly what everybody is suggesting in this thread but the folder is still appearing in staging and accessible but the folder in workarea is not accessible and it has the delete icon. And also when I create edition, the deleted folder and its included files appear in edition too which is unwanted.

I have also read the Manuel; it did not provide any more information then this thread.
Any help will be appreciated.

well, it's clear that if you still have a delete icon in a workarea, it means that submission of this did not succeed.

as to WHY this did not succeed - most likely you had locked files in the workarea and you deleted a folder, without unlocking files. It could be something different, but I think that my dx is correct.

It worked. First you are right - it's not submitting to staging area because of file conflict. But i don't understand why i am having file conflict ? I just create those test directory and test files under workarea for testing purpose. There is no version of any files and folder ever created for those test dir and test files.

But when i overwrite those files then i am able to resolve the conflict. At last i resubmit it again and it worked.

Directory deletes are a major change, so this is a "Are You Really Reall Sure You Want To Do This" moment. Yes it is a pain cause to have to go override the conflict. But when it stops an accidental delete of a directory heirarchy, you will be very happy.

yes, you are right.. however that *thing* that makes me go absolutely NUTS sometimes is that deleteion of locked files .... This is a new *feature* introduced since 6.X

Andy, thanks for this post, it helped us diagnose an issue.

Have you run into the situation where, you've deleted a directory, submitted it, but when you go to resolve the conflict you get a "checked out files prevent submitting"?

I thought this might've meant there were locked or modified files in the dir i just deleted, but i checked and found i didnt have any modified/locked files ( in the current dir or in another workarea)

any help is appreciated.

What about any deleted files that still have locks on them? Try restoring any deleted files from the directory and see if any locks show up.

That means they do not have a basic understanding of Teamsite.

And yes I did tell him how to do it. Delete it in a workarea and submit the deletes.

The person who asked this question needs training, esp if, since this is a developer's forum, he likely is a developer.

Based on the original posting - the reply was justified, because the original posting clearly showed a lack of understanding about the product and reading the manuals or taking training for an enterprise system makes sense and there was no indication in the original post that either had been done.

If you or your company spends tens-of-thousands (if not more) of dollars to purchase an enterprise system - don't you think it makes sense that the people working with it make some effort to get educated in its usage ?

It wouldn't necessarily be that different if you bought a $25 piece of shareware off the internet - if you run into problems the first thing you should do is try to go through the documentation. If you can't find the answer there - then you ask for help, but include background indicating that you at least tried to help yourself first. With an enterprise system the same rules apply, but are significantly magnified. (I'll admit, I probably would have taken the time to point to the correct manual and perhaps even section of the manual to read - though the original posting also failed to indicate the version and platform information)

As it is - you picked up on the first response - from about 9 months ago - of an entire thread of responses that expanded upon and delved further into the underlying subject matter. If you're going to ridicule someone for their posting you should at least try to do it in a timely manner ;-)

How do you override it? I have tried _Retry Submit_ and _Overwrite All_, and the OOTB submit flow goes away, and I'm still left with the deleted directory showing up (with the X icon, and the directory still exists in STAGING).

I'm using TeamSite 6.5 SP2 on Windows 2003 SP1.

There have been a few posts about this on other threads. You will want to search for those.

One possibile issue for you is that there is a locked file in a sub dir you are deleting. That causes the WF to fail.

Try this:

in the WA, do a get latest of the directory that was deleted, turn force on. That should get everything underneath that was deleted. Go to the bottom, remove any locks first. Delete the files, submit and make certain that submit completes. Go to up a level, delete the now empty sub dirs and submit. keep going until you are done. Tedious but it *should* work.
