Teamsite 6.5 Installation Issue

Hi,
We have upgraded from TS6.1(with SP2, on windows2000 with SP2) to TS6.5 but i am unable to log in into the Teamsite.Although i am able to see the Y drive as well as the login page for Teamsite.

these are the errors i am getting (which i can see ) ::

>> When i enter user name and his corresponding role(as a master)

It returns me this error Smiley Embarassed

"Cannot create session string"

>> When i look into the services it shows me the iwproxy service is stopped.

When i try to restart this service it throws me one error which is i think is windows error and the code is 1067
I tried to run "iwproxy" from command prompt and it gives me this error

iwproxy does not have 'Act as part of the operating system' (SeTcbPrivilege) privileges.
These need to be enabled for user iwmaster(This is the user who is trying to access teamsite server and he is responsible for installation, the person who has installed this).

One starnge thing is also happening when i run the command iwreset -a , it shows me the successful execution of all the services related to teamsite.How can it be possible because in service window iwproxy service is down.this is what i am getting when i run iwreset -a

If I understand correctly, you installed 6.5 as user iwmaster? I think that's your problem. TS always needs to be installed by Administrator or root (depending on the OS, of course). That's the IW tagline, but I wonder if there's a way around this without having to reinstall -- although, the process of reinstallation really isn't all that painful.

As I recall, I think there's a service on Windows 2000 that's called "RunAs" that may be a workaround (that's not to say that you won't have more problems with this installation because it was installed by a non-Administrator). Do you have "Administrator" access to this box?

In addition to what Dave said - 1067 is usually an indication of an invalid license key.

Hi Dave,
iwmaster is having all the administrator rights for this machine.then also i am getting this error.
My Env is windows2000 with SP4.
Still i am confused about the execution of iwreset -a.
If iwproxy is down the howcome this command is getting executed successfully ?

If you look closely - you'll see that all those commands are having their output redirected to nul (analogous to /dev/null in Unix) - which means you cannot tell from that whether they are succesfully getting started or not. All iwreset is doing is going through a list of commands to stop / start services - it's not actually checking the return status of any of those services (perhaps it should, but ...)

I don't think it matters whether or not the other user has all of the priveleges that Administrator has -- it still wants to see the installation done by Administrator. With regard to the net stop command not returning any errors, I don't know if it would because it's invoked as:

The syntax above supresses errors, but someone please correct me if I'm mistaken on this point.

Yes, I believe this is the case.

In dissecting the syntax: cmd /c net start "iwproxy" > nul: 2>&1,

cmd /c instructs the DOS shell to terminate after the command is terminated (whether successfully or abnormally)
net start "iwproxy" attempts to start the iwproxy service
> nul: 2>&1 this is the part which I think supresses any output that may come from the command, whether STDOUT or STDERR.

It's also possible that iwproxy may be starting up just fine but is terminating abnormally just afterwards. What do your log files tell you?

Which log files are you talking about. I have already posted the content of the log file from tsisvalid.log..

It doesn't seem to like the license key entirely - have you bothered to look at the iwserver.log, iwtrace.log and/or iwevents.log file - one or more of them will usually contain information that might clarify the problem...

Well, I was thinking of <iw-home>/local/logs/iwevents.log, but it sounds like your license is messed up. Did you complete the license generating form properly? It appears as though the form may have been entirely blank -- I didn't think that was possible because the form validation stops you under those conditions, but hey!

If your license isn't good, you shouldn't even bother reinstalling TS. Try regenerating another license key first.

Good news is My Teamsite Server is running fine now .
Now i did a very strange thing and then was able to restart the iwproxy server.
I ran the comand iwproxy -d in debug mode and it gave me this

C:\Documents and Settings\iwmaster>iwproxy -d
[Using tickets for authentication]
Can't access the session key file. Make sure you run
iwproxy as root or a local administrator.
You may also need to run iw-home/bin/iwsessionkeygen to
create the session key file.

So i did the same thing. executed this command from command prompt iwsessionkeygen
and this generated some key for all the proxy remaps i had defined in my iw.cfg file.So finally teamsite is running.
But i am still not getting all the things. Can you put up some comments on this ?

Okay, so it sounds like the first hurdle is past us. Your TS license is all set up and everything (I'm still not clear on how you got it to work, but sometimes not asking 'why' is the best thing), so now you want to solve the non-Administrator installation problem.

Quick and supported answer: reinstall (as Administrator, of course).

Longer but exciting answer with unpredictable results, which is sometimes more fun anyway: Like I mentioned before, there is a RunAs service in Windows 2000. I'm not clear on how this is invoked via command line, but if you were to write your own script to start all TeamSite-related services with the programmatic RunAs suffix, that would SEEM to fix the problem. This solution is speculation on my part, but to me, there doesn't appear to be any reason that this wouldn't work provided the RunAs method can be accomplished.

Now Teamsite server is running fine for me.I am able to login onto the teamite.
This is what i was asking you in the last post.Why i had to run this command ? . iwsessionkeygen
Because after running this my teamsite is working smoothly.Absolutely fine.

Okay, now I understand. iwsessionkeygen simply creates the key for your login session, which it sounds like TeamSite was complaining about in the first place. What I'm thinking is that you may still have problems, though, because of the way it was installed.

I am still trying to get the concept behind iwsessionkeygen. Because i myself installed or upgraded teamsite so many times TS6.0 as well as TS6.1.But i never faced such situation.
Do you think that i should reinstall the teamsite once again ? I think now its working fine.

One more thing i forgot to ask ? if i have to install teamsite server where all my teamsite users are on Active Directory. Means i have to keep this server on domain.
Now if i install teamsite from a local user account who is also having adminitartor privilage. Then, will this teamsite work on domain also ?

I haven't worked with Active Directory in quite a while and I'm afraid that question is out of my realm. But, if TS is working fine for you and you're able to do what you need to, then I guess there's no need to touch it! I'm just saying that there might be a problem with your implementation in the future that points to this issue.

You should try to reboot the server.

If TS does not start up, then you need to fix it. If TS does start up, then things are OK. The
last thing you want to do is leave a timebomb waiting for the next reboot.
