email_map.cfg parsing

Enthu

How can be email_map.cfg parsed and value of email address retrieved based on user name ? All suggestions are welcome. I badly need to incorporate this functionality.

If you are using the XML-formatted version of email_map.cfg - e.g.:<emailConf>
<user name="jsmith" fullname="John Q. Smith" email="John.Smith@BigCorp.com"/>
</emailConf>You can attempt to match full names against the fullname attribute - however you'll probably want to use a case-insensitive matching algorithm and even then you may have problems (like matching "John Smith" against "John Q. Smith" or matchng "Dave Smith" against "David Smith" or "Bob Smythe" against "Robert Smythe").

If you can be sure that you're using the exact same "full name" in both cases - it will be a lot easier.

Once you find a match you're willing to use - you then need to retrieve the associated email attribute for the full name.

I am using the same XML-formatted version of email_map.cfg and i am comparing based on user name attribute not fullname but its not working. I am using XMLParser for parsing and i think thats why nothing is working.

Please post your code so that we can help you.

Why re-invent the wheel ?
Look at iw-home/iw-perl/vendor/lib/TeamSite/PT/iwov_emailmap.pm

That module is certainly a potential for a starting place - but, assuming I understood the initial question correctly, if the project is to find an email address for a *fullname* as opposed to a *userid* - then you'd still have to write additional / modify existing code in order to do the lookup by full name.

From the follow up question:

I am using the same XML-formatted version of email_map.cfg and i am comparing based on user name attribute not fullname but its not working. I am using XMLParser for parsing and i think thats why nothing is working.

It seems like Enthu is trying to get John.Smith@BigCorp.com based on jsmith (not John Q. Smith) from the example -

<emailConf>
    <user name="jsmith" fullname="John Q. Smith" email="John.Smith@BigCorp.com"/>
</emailConf>

However, I may have misunderstood the original question. Perhaps Enthu can clarify?

I sit corrected - I read "user name" in the original post as "full name" - and didn't notice the clarification in the follow-up post.

Thanks all for giving me suggestions. It finally worked.

Yeah I was trying to get John.Smith@BigCorp.com based on jsmith (not John Q. Smith) from the example -

<emailConf>
<user name="jsmith" fullname="John Q. Smith" email="John.Smith@BigCorp.com"/>
</emailConf>
