/iwserver branch entry appears if edition made

Frederik

Another (undocumented?) miracle discovered, in our TS 5.5 to TS 6.5 migration preparation (Solaris).

We copied a TS 5.5 backing store to TS 6.5 test server, and started using it. Testing scripts, WF, etc.

Now, our project requires a 2nd machine to do a mount to a subbranch in the backing store. We use :

mount -o vers=2,noac TSHOSTNAME:/iwserver/default/main/project /data/project

Turns out that this FAILS with our new TS 6.5 test server.
nfs mount: TSHOSTNAME:/iwserver/default/main/project: No such file or directory

Why?
So turns out that /iwserver/default/main/project is missing. After checking what's going on, we figured out that only branches that have had a "New Edition" published on that TS-server, appear under /iwserver share point.

We even have some branches under /iwserver on locations where they shouldn't be (e.g. /iwserver/default/main/test65 exists. The test65 branch was created at that location a while ago, but that default store is now renamed to test65, so it's location should be /iwserver/test65/main/test65).

Bottom Line
Now we know we need to add "create an edition under each branch that will be mounted directly" to our migration scenario.

Oh my **** :-(

That sounds very strange. Have you logged a bug with support ?

I assume you really upgraded from 5.5.2 SP whatever.

TS 5.5.2 sp4 on Solaris, yeah.

I haven't logged this one with support (yet). I seem to be logging cases on an almost daily basis already as it is. (6 open cases for TS 6.5 - most are mentioned on devnet too.). Will do when things cool.

Is this for only a converted branch ? Can you create a new branch & see if it is available ?
I assume Samba sees the same info.

I can test it out on 6.7 but did not bring a old iw-store.

we're seeing this ONLY on the branches in the Backing Store that we brought in from TS 5.5.

To be clear, we copied the entire "iw-store" folder. So no copying of specific files, no iwmigrate or any thing. The pure backing store was moved in.

All branches created on the TS 6.5 are immediately visible in /iwserver. I figure that may be because when you create a branch, you also create an edition (INITIAL) on the server.

What we're also having under /iwserver, is e.g. a folder

[root@sdas0003]:/# ls -la /iwserver/default/main/test65/
total 14
drw------- 7 root root 512 Dec 13 16:23 ./
drw------- 10 root root 512 Jan 26 11:36 ../
drw------- 3 root root 512 Dec 13 16:22 EDITION/
drw------- 2 root root 512 Dec 13 16:22 STAGING/
drw------- 2 root root 512 Dec 13 16:22 WORKAREA/
drw------- 5 root root 512 Dec 13 16:23 fred/
drw------- 5 root root 512 Dec 13 16:23 sara/

which is weird, because that branch (vpath /default/main/test65) doesn't exist any more. The history of that was :

Install TS 6.5
create branch test65 under /default/main, make 2 subbranches (fred, sara)
de-activated store "default"
renamed <iw-store>/default as <iw-store>/test65, activate store "test65"
so the current vpath is /test65/main/test65
bring in "default" store from TS 5.5.2, activate "default"

still, /iwserver/default/main/test65 is accessible as if that store renaming hadn't happened.
