Hi All -

Is there a way to force one results from a recognizer or classifier in MetaTagger. I am not sure what the decision point would be, possibly score.

Any thoughts would be well received.

Not sure I understand all the details here. It sounds like you have recognizer that is matching multiple categories from the recognizer taxonomy and you want it to match only one - not all - the categories.

You can try using the resolve script at the end of your reconizer script, it has a couple of parameters that my help. It may cut down on the number of matches.
parse; recognize; resolve -report_noweak

This would be the tightest.

The engineers may know of another means to limit the recognizer, but I am not finding any documentation that suggest that you can use score vectors to determine the strongest match. Keep in mind a recognizer can be pretty binary - it matched or it didn't. Whether MetaTagger keeps track of any score vectors for a reconnizer I would believe to be unlikely.

What are the limitations around a classifier?

You can add a threshold argument to a recognizer rack script. From there, you can add "-numcategories n" to determine how many categories you want returned from the taxonomy. Should also work in a classifier.

Examples (for MT4.x):

parse ;classify -K 5 -numcategories 1
parse ;recognize ;resolve ;threshold -numcategories 1

This will return the highest scoring category that is suggested. In my opinion, you should be careful with this and only use it if you have a technical requirement for one category. Keep in mind, the lone category that is suggested may be low scoring in terms of relevance for the content, so you would need to determine if a low score is better than no score. Likewise, multiple categories may score high, and you may want to have all relevant categories assigned.

We also use "-cutoff" frequently. It allows you to limit categories getting suggested based upon the highest scoring category. If "widget x" (from your product taxonomy) is mentioned 10 times in a document, you can apply a cutoff of .4 to pick up other products that are mentioned 4 times or more; and ignore products that are mentioned once or twice.
