group base restriction on data types

We have just integrated teamsite 6.1(windows 2003) with LDAP (Active Directory). Now as per the requirement we need to have local groups which will be the base for the access restriction on data type(DCT). So data type should be accessed by only those groups which has access to it. My query is whether it is possible and if it is then what will be the best practice to achieve it?
