OD Centralized administration using SNMP
arabif
Hello,
We are planning to implement the OD Centralized administration using SNMP (Feature in OD 6.0.1) by enabling the OD SNMP agents on all Base/Receiver servers. However, there are concerns on the vulnerability of SNMP especially since we have receivers in the non-secured zones. Does OD support any other protocol or is there a better way to monitor status of all OD Base/Receiver servers.
Thanks,
arabif

You can always telnet to the port you configured for deployments and see if it responds, however, if you use SSL deploys, this can lead to issues. We used to do that type of monitoring quite successfully, but once we turned on SSL, the receiver would crash after an hour or so.
You could also use web services to get the server status of all the hosts, but setup and maintenance looks to be a bit on the expensive side.

Not sure if this is sufficient for your needs, but OD's SNMP securityProperties let you define which network monitor nodes can access the SNMP agent. You can also disable "set" commands.
